Located in a small village just north of Castle Douglas, it is a quiet, peaceful setting, and the local folk were very friendly. A small village shop is useful for some emergency/basic supplies. The local Church of Scotland and its surrounding graveyard provide plenty of interesting stories for those interested in local history. Walking, hiking, lake swimming and fishing are easily available and accessed for the fitness-oriented. There are plenty of opportunities for day trips to surrounding areas, towns and villages. History and art feature prominently in this area. The cottage was fully equipped to live in, and 6-7 days was an ideal length of stay to enjoy Dumfries and Galloway.
