Spacious and clean
Lovely cottage which worked well for two families and was spotlessly clean. We enjoyed our stay and would stay there again. However, the outside is just as important as the inside from a customer experience point of view and the garden and hedges were in desperate need of cutting and pruning and the gravel drive was quite slippy and dirty from moss and weeds. A few minor niggles; despite the cottage sleeping 8 there were only 7 seats at the table in the kitchen and neither reception room could seat 8 so we had to split up between the rooms. Could do with more hooks and rails for wet towels as 7 people having showers everyday there were lots of damp towels but nowhere to hang them to dry. Hygiene bags and bins in the bathroom would also be useful to dispose of items that can’t be flushed due to the septic tank. After a day at the beach there was nowhere outside to wash off sand from shoes, buckets, dinghies etc. so an outside tap would be very useful.

Lovely getaway
We had a lovely time in Haugh of Urr, the local pub (a 20 min walk) had a fab beer garden and was friendly, allowed dogs and was great in the sunshine. The cottage had a well equipped kitchen and 2 small lounge areas. The hot water was on an immersion so do heat it up before heading out for the day. A fuse went in the property so keep en eye out for this. The fuse box is in the cupboard by the downstairs bedroom, which is very small but ok for a child or adult who doesn’t mind! The bins are only collected on a tue so if you’re there in between then there’s not much room for recycling but there was a large extra box for us to use. The rooms upstairs get really hot and stuffy in the summer, there is a fan but maybe bring another. A bbq and firepit would be a nice addition as well as some citronella candles for outside as there are a lot of midges. But the garden gets a lot of sun so it’s very pleasant to be outside. The beaches near Dalbeattie are quite silty/muddy but still beautiful. We heard along the coast towards Kircudbright was more sandy. We recommend olive retreat in castle Douglas! Overall a lovely cottage and had a great time, it was lovely and sunny so this made a huge difference.
