The Pine Inn is the "Grand Old Lady" of Carmel. Multiple generations of faithful travelers have stayed there for it's charm, attentive staff & gracious hospitality. It is not there anylonger. The dining area does not open early. I got my coffee across the street. I sat in the dining room to wait for my friend to come down from their room. I was told "nothing is free lady, you can't sit there unless to order breakfast". I went into the lobby where there are multiple signs staying "no food or drink". I asked the desk where I could sit. She said: "Well, you could go outside". It was raining and I walk with a cane. I had my wedding there 50 yrs ago. One of my 4 children had their honeymoon there. Ive stayed at The Pine Inn so often in the past, that they use to send me Xmas cards. I now undetstand why the hotel was nearly empty last week. The staff is rude & undertrained. The "Grand Lady" of Carmel is a lovely shell of a building. Im not sure who owns the hotel now, but I would never recommend anyone I know to stay there under its current management.
