Wallhope Retreat - Chepstow, spectacular views

Just on the edge of the Wye Valley, Wallhope Retreat is a break away from the real world. The cottage sits overlooking fields of cattle, to the River Severn and Old Severn Bridge, further beyond to see planes coming into Bristol airport and through to the Mendip Hills right in the distance. It is a private bolthole from where you can start your countryside adventures. This rural cottage is ideal for couples looking for a romantic weekend away, groups of friends who want to take full advantage of the surroundings or families with children who would love to stay on a farm.

Having been thoughtfully renovated, the love the owner's have put into it is clear. The sitting/dining room is a welcoming and comfortable room to dine in or relax in front of the wood burning stove. Open the window and let the outdoors in to really enjoy this refreshing location. The well-equipped kitchen is to the rear of the cottage and has a breakfast bar for a quick morning meal. Upstairs you are reminded of where you are with wildlife themed decor and large windows, so you never miss out on the view.

Slipping into the hot tub in the front garden at the end of the day you will never want to leave. This is a dreamscape for anybody feeling the draw of an authentic country retreat. With Chepstow and it's castle and racecourse less than 10-minutes' drive, Lydney and Puzzlewood in the Forest of Dean 15 minutes and the Severn Bridge giving you access to Bristol and Bath you get the perfect combination of rural seclusion and exciting days out.

Ground Floor

Kitchen:
This country chic kitchen combines modern grey units and fresh white worktops with wooden stools and industrial style lighting. It is perfectly sized for four guests with an oven and hob, microwave, kettle, fridge/freezer and breakfast bar area. A door opens out to a rear patio where there is a bistro set giving you space to sit while waiting for dinner to finish cooking.

Cloakroom:
From the kitchen is a handy cloakroom with a WC and sink.

Sitting Room/Dining Room:
The high ceilings in this room and arched window looking out to the front garden and spectacular views beyond make it bright and spacious. The sitting area in front of the wood burning stove has a two-seater sofa, cuddle chair and an armchair, perfect for curling up after long walks in the country. The dining table sits under a statement light and is a lovely spot to serve evening meals together.

Utility:
The utility is hidden away by the dining area and is a very useful space for doing the laundry and it provides some extra storage space. You will find a washing machine and sink, and the ironing facilities are stored here.

First Floor

Bedroom One:
The master bedroom is airy and spacious with a king-size bed which faces a large window looking across to the Severn Bridge and the river. Waking up here and opening the blinds is a real treat as you are staying in the heart of beautiful farmland. The soft furnishings are inspired by the clover, fields of lush grass and surrounding flora that you can see in this area. A chest of drawers, bedside table and a dressing table furnish this room.

En-Suite:
The modern and monochrome en-suite to bedroom one gives this room some additional privacy if you are staying with friends. A walk-in shower, WC and sink in white with contrasting black details give this room a professional finish.

Bathroom:
Fantastic wallpaper makes the family bathroom an unexpected statement in this cottage. With elements of the farm reflected in the design you will see pheasants, crickets, bridges and lots of greenery. A freestanding bath sits in the centre of the room giving you a spa-like experience as you soak tired walking legs.

Bedroom Two:
This second bedroom has twin beds which can be a super king-size double on request. At the back of the house, this room has a view out onto the field behind the cottage. This room has also taken inspiration from the history of the farm, hares leap on the curtains and they used to be seen around the farm in the owner's childhood. You have a chest of drawers and bedside tables along with an armchair to read a book before settling to sleep.

Outside

The garden serves as your own private viewpoint of the spectacular outlook from Wallhope Retreat. With a corner sofa and table, you will adore having your morning coffee here while the birds swoop above you, bees visit the lavender, and the tractors get to work in the fields. Sitting in the hot tub at the bottom of the garden you feel hidden away with only the sounds of country farm life to keep you company. There is a small lawned area, a gravel pathway and colourful hanging baskets and planted borders. You are given complete privacy to really soak in this rural retreat. To the rear is a small paved area with a bistro set. Off-road parking is provided for up to four cars. Bike storage is available by prior arrangement.

* Additional fee of £89 for use of the hot tub per stay.

High standards and great views
The standard of this place is amazing. The hot tub and the large bath upstairs are so nice. The views across the fields to the river are stunning. Can't recommend this place enough. Some great local walks that don't involve getting in the car as well.

Fantastic cottage
A brilliant find! We received a friendly welcome from the owners and the cottage is in a wonderful setting with stunning views over the Severn. The cottage was immaculately clean and the quality of the furnishings was very high, including the best mattresses we have slept on. We would happily return. Thank you!

Beautiful cottage, stunning views
Really lovely place - and stunning views over the farm and fields down to the Severn Bridge. Rooms are really spacious. Everything is clean and new... great wifi signal. It's on a working farm... and I would recommend taking the farm tour with host Sarah, who was lovely and friendly. There's also a nice garden and private hot tub which was fantastic. We had a fantastic relaxing week there and really didn't want to leave!

Best holiday cottage ever!
We spent two nights at this fabulous holiday cottage. Every room was beautifully decorated even down to the radiators. Lovely views across the farm to the Severn bridge in the distance which is lit up at night. Fresh milk and delicious ice cream is available to purchase from the vending machines on the farm. This is by far the best holiday cottage we have ever stayed at the only thing missing for us was a socket with a usb port as we forgot our phone charger plug! We will definitely be back to explore more of the Wye valley.

An absolute gem
We loved our stay at Wallhope. We were greeted by a spectacular view which took in the countryside and the Prince of Wales bridge. The cottage is beautiful - lovingly furnished and very comfortable and cosy. The perfectly placed hot tub in the garden is a real x-factor. Sarah and Paul were also fantastic hosts. We were even treated to a brilliant tour of the dairy farm which our little boy loved!

Wonderful retreat
Sarah and Paul have made a wonderful little retreat on their diary farm. They are both great hosts very hospitable, kind and helpful. The same goes for the dogs and cows . Certainly take the farm tour with Paul he is an excellent story teller. The whole place is very nicely build, spotless with a high standard finish. The kitchen is really outstanding equipped in regard to other places we have been to. The beds are excellent. Outside you have a great view over the fields and in the far the river. We enjoined the Hottub and the provided BBQ. It was a perfect stay.

4 Ladies and a baby
Last year my sister had a little boy. My sister and I normally go away every year for a week’s holiday in the sun, along with my best friend. Not wanting to be away from her little one this year, we decided on a staycation over Easter. My mum also joined us with my little nephew. We were not disappointed in our choice of accommodation. The cottage is beautifully appointed with stunning views. Every room is tastefully decorated with a homely feel. The kitchen is well equipped and having the hot tub was an added bonus, especially with the uninterrupted views over the fields and the river. We had a wonderful stay, and the owners were very friendly and welcoming. We loved the addition of the milkshake, milk and ice cream vending machines. I would definitely recommend Wallhope Farm to anyone wanting a restful break, with rural views and plenty of places to go sightseeing and walking. The town of Chepstow has some good restaurants if you want to venture out, otherwise the cottage has everything you need for a self-catered holiday. We will be back!

A Great Break Away
We were drawn to the property as it looked very inviting and it was appealing to stay on a farm for a long weekend. When we arrived, not only was the house as per the images online, it was even better, the views were amazing, seeing not only the farm and the cows and calves but we could see both the bridges over the River Severn too. The property was very clean, well equipped, furnished and decorated to a high standard. We chose to use the hot tub as well which was lovely, especially looking out over the farm and the River Severn from it. The owners were very welcoming and the added bonus of fresh milk/milkshakes and gelato on tap was brilliant. Staying over the weekend we also had the luxury of the Ice Cream Trailor being open for business so we could try out all the varieties of gelato that were on offer. The negative side to this is that we left with a dent in our funds as we had to bring back 5 tubs of ice cream and two bottles of milkshake home with us LOL. So glad I packed the cooler bag and ice packs!! Its been a week now and we are wishing we had brought home more! Lots of local walks on the doorstep, local farm shops near by and great places to visit and eat. Tip: if you are going to stay, make sure you do take a cooler bag and Ice Packs!

Absolutely insanely perfect
This is called a retreat and it really is. We arrived exhausted from work and left feeling completely revitalised. We are two mamas and a toddler. The bedrooms are MASSIVE. The cot was perfect for our 2 year old (the sides were super high which put our minds at ease) and the high chair was really easy to use and wipe clean. We had fun giving her a bath each night. It was beautiful. The moment we walked in we were hit with the most incredible fresh smell and greeted with homemade scones, fresh butter and local jam. We even sourced the hand soap and had it waiting for us when we got home! The house is so bright due to the many incredible windows that look out to the fields. The first words our daughter yelled each morning was moo moo cows! as she raced to find them from the many windows! I can’t tell you how many times we played hide and seek including in the garden with her teddy bear. It was truly magical. The hot tub was easily the best we have used. Easy to take the lid off and pop back on and the views were amazing. There were beautiful little lights in the garden which made it feel even more special. Sarah was a lovely host and you could see she took pride in the Wallhope. She has staged the house perfectly. We visited the surrounding towns which were lovely (the Forest of Dean had a fun walk for our daughter) but we didn’t feel the need to leave much more as we were so relaxed there. This really was the most perfect retreat!

Delightful and comfortable
Thank you for letting us stay in your beautiful, delightful and comfortable cottage. We loved it. Thank you for helping us sort out the TV!! Your fresh milk and gelato were first class. Such a treat to have it on tap so to speak!! The location is fabulous for exploring the Wye Valley and Forest of Dean and so many gorgeous pubs/restaurants too. We loved sitting up in bed with the window open with a view at night time of the lights along the Severn and the Bridge. Very atmospheric. Lovely to hear the owls and the cows. You've lovingly created a real gem.

Beautiful house with beautiful views
A really beautiful house with the most stunning of views from both the house and the hot tub! Easy to find and as you walk through the gate to the front door your breath is taken away by the view across farmland and to the Bristol Channel and Seven bridge beyond. The house itself was immaculately presented, both stylish and comfortable, with many of the windows framing the view perfectly. The hot tub adds an additional bit of luxury. Lovely walks from the property but you will need a car if you to go out for something to eat. We did walk into Chepstow but decided the walk back was going to be too far and up hill all the way!

Absolut empfehlenswert!
