Storybook cottage!
This cottage truly looks like something out of a storybook. My husband and I have been traveling to Colorado for 30 years and this was one of the most unique places we’ve ever stayed. Loved the back patio area and the pool. Joan is a very gracious and welcoming host. It was a very nice place to relax.

Wonderful Cabin and Hosts
Stephen and Joan are the nicest, most welcoming people you’ll meet. Joan greeted us by saying we could let Bo, our 11 month old Golden off the leash. The property is beautiful and relaxing. The cabin is a treat. A comfortable, clean, and rustic cabin filled with their custom made furniture. Stephen and Joan’s hospitality throughout the stay was much appreciated. I recommend this property highly. Hey

Beautiful Cottage!
This property is amazing, the rustic decor is amazing. This is truly a hidden treasure, the scenery around this property is beautiful it took my breath away. On property we went swimming daily, played with the pets, played tennis and went to Crystal River. Off property we visited Maroon Bells, Hanging Lake and went river rafting. Our family loved this area in Colorado and the best thing to the cottage are the property owners Joan and Steve they treated us like family they are truly talented and the sweetest people. We can not wait to come back!

The coziest hidden gem of a mountain retreat!
I can't say enough good things about Crystal Farm. Truly, this stay was a dream. I went for a solo retreat and ended up making friends with the warm, hospitable owners - you even get homemade farmhouse cookies upon arrival! But the retreat was even more than I'd hoped for. I loved the idyllic, white winter setting; feeding the mini donkeys on my morning stroll; walking into Redstone and exploring; having a constant fire going in the cozy cottage. It was magical.

Hidden Mountain Gem
This stay was a relaxing true Colorado experience. Beautiful property next to the Crystal River. We left our bedroom window open at night and could hear the river. Our hosts Joan and Steve were awesome! They are true animal lovers like us and it was such a pleasure to stay on their property! We travel with our dogs and they had the time of their lives staying with us on the property!!! Joan and Steve gave us great ideas on hikes nearby. Hiked the Avalanche Creek Trail and that was amazing! Not too far away is one of our favorites...Slow Groovin BBQ, did that after a hike. Did some SUP’n on the Roaring Fork River in Northstar Nature Preserve which was to die for! The cottage was perfect for two! Please note there are some levels and steps in the historic cottage, but when you are there for an active vacation it was no problem. The cottage is furnished inside and out in the incredible Crystal Farms furniture and decor, which they make in their cool studio! As an interior designer by profession I totally appreciated the vibe and decor of the cottage! We LOVED the whole experience! We hated to leave but, hope to come back and also make it to see their ranch sometime!

Western, memorable and exceptional
You can go anywhere and find luxury accommodations with perfectly appointed everything. But precious few lodgings have the rich, authentic character you will find in this irresistible cottage. I was in love from the moment I walked through the door. Don’t get me wrong; it’s not without its extravagances—like the butter-soft leather couch for curling up with a book or watching your choice of streaming distractions in front of a fresh-laid fire. Not to mention the gorgeous, super-comfortable bed and wonderfully equipped kitchen. Even the bathroom was a spacious treat with stone floors, pedestal sink, clawfoot tub, and fluffy towels to spare. What makes the Ice House truly special, though, is the most amazing array of hand-crafted elk antler furniture, lamps, light fixtures and more, all designed and built by your hosts—hard-working ranchers and artisans with a special gift for kindness. Joan and Steve made sure we had everything to make our stay pleasant and memorable. Even our St. Bernard gave the place a five-bone rating. How could you not have fun on a fenced full acre, a pond to cool off in, other doggies to play with, and a hefty jar of complimentary dog treats. All beneath the stunning red cliffs and near the pristine waters of the Crystal River.

Cute hideaway
The cottage is cozy the owners are very friendly and make you feel at home. The kitchen is perfect in size for a couple. There are plenty of fans for warm days and the house is well stocked with firewood for the cool summer nights or the cold winter days. If your traveling with you dog there is plenty of room for them to roam on the property. Internet works well and if for some reason you need to be entertained there is internet TV available with services such as AppleTV, Pandora, Spotify and other services. For AppleTV you will have to use your own account so don’t forget to delete the login before you leave. We brought our bikes and the quaint town of Redstone is just a short 1 1/2 miles away and it is mostly a flat bike ride. If you like waterfalls there is a cute waterfall the other direction just about a 1/2 away and there is a small parking area to stop st and you can walk a few hundred feet to see the water cascading down. The loft beds are accessible by a ladder and there are two double beds and power for a fan which when you open the two windows cools the space very quickly for a comfortable nights sleep. The water pressure is excellent so taking a hot shower or bath in the over sized bath is a joy Overall this is now one of our favorite places to visit.

Property not as described
The “ice house” was not as described. The kitchen, dining room and bathroom were downstairs. Over all the place was way smaller than the pictures look. The steps were definitely not friendly for older visitors. The “loft” for kids was not safe for kids…. The whole place was just crowded and run down. I could have lived with all of that. There were several issues that were in acceptable. 1. There were mouse droppings on the kitchen counter in the morning when we got up. 2. The pool was under construction. Looked like it had been out of service for quite a while. We were not able to use the pool at all. 3. The outside sitting area was over grown with vegetation. We could not use the back patio or side sitting area. Overall the place was over priced and not well maintained. I sent pictures to the host who apologized for any inconvenience.

Horrible
I am extremely disappointed. When we arrived, there was a thick layer of dead gnats on every surface, including the kitchen and bed. My partner and I had to spend hours cleaning the property before setting down our things and getting into bed. It's a real shame, the property has tremendous potential and we love the area so much. But it was so bad as to be ridiculous and the added on cleaning charges are a slap in the face. There are no screens on any of the windows and many do not shut properly, resulting in insane numbers of bugs and spiders. My partner and I are happy roughing it but we were considering pitching a tent outside given the conditions inside. The property owners and operators do not secure the trash and we woke up the next morning with garbage scattered across the front and back yards. I understand this is sometimes outside their control, but it is clear that the property owners are not taking even the most basic steps to secure garbage onsite. This is really sad as it results in problematic bears that must be euthanized. I will never stay here again and I will never stay at a VRBO again. It's not worth the effort and this place was completely misrepresented in the listing.

Crystal Farm and Steve & Joan are the Best
Crystal Farm is an incredible oasis in the stunning White River Forest. The Elk Mountains serve as an equally incredible backdrop. The property is gorgeous with a large grassy pasture in front surrounded by huge Blue Spruce trees and that is typically occupied by Nell and Flaco, the two resident and extremely friendly donkeys. Expect them to come by the cottage to say hi and get a treat that Steve and Joan, the owners, thoughtfully provide. The cottage is the old ice house for the original farm that Steve and Joan have wonderfully decorated into rustic turn of the 20th century charm. We spent a lot of time on the back patio relaxing and reading with the sound of the breeze in the aspen trees and the Crystal River rushing below. We have high stress busy jobs and it was our dream to find a truly relaxing place where we could decompress and relax. That dream came true here. Except for a brief trip to Marble to eat barbecue, we didn’t leave the farm. There was no reason to. Our second evening there we were walking our dog and ran into Steve and Joan and their longtime friend on the porch of the gorgeous main house having drinks and chatting the evening away. Without hesitation they invited us to stay and have a drink with them. They quickly integrated us into their conversation and made us feel like we were old friends too. We stayed chatting forever and eventually went in the house where they made us the best BLTs we’ve ever eaten. Not only did we stay in the most awesome place ever, we feel so lucky to have made two new friends for life. Unfortunately the VRBO description doesn’t do the farm or the cottage justice. They have thought of everything you could ever need and if it’s not there they’ll get it for you. We absolutely loved the cottage at Crystal Farm and will be returning often.

Perfect Cottage for Winter, Summer is another story...
We were so looking forward to taking some time off in the Historic Cottage in Redstone. Beautiful setting and impressive grounds. Our experience though was much different than the other reviews that are online. When we arrived the first thing we noted was that it was extremely warm in the cottage. We started to open windows and also noted that there wasn't any screens on any of the windows, that is the windows that worked. Many were double paned and did not allow to be open. I searched for a fan. There was one small fan that was very old and did not work. Had to chase down the caretaker and he managed to fix it - however if on HI it would make terrible rattle. The kitchen my wife likened to a "camp kitchen." No dishwasher and a dead fly in the refrigerator. Overall the smell of the place was fireplace. The ground level is where there is the bathroom (extremely small shower) and the kitchen and dining room. Cool dining room table but moved if you put any pressure on it. Upstairs was the living room and bedroom. We could not open any windows in the bedroom (bed had flannel comforter - perfect for overheated room with no airflow). There is listed two other beds that are above the living room that have a vertical ladder to climb and no windows up there either. Overall impression was cluttered and hot. We were sweating and not happy. We decided to check out the pool (main reason for renting this place). The "heated" pool was layered with debris, leaves, sticks and basically had not been cleaned - not inviting at all. The heater on the pool we learned was broken. My wife and I are superhosts and premier partners on VRBO. We know what amenities to expect when you're paying an expensive rate. As we sat there sweating and looking at each other totally bummed - we decided to leave and go check into a hotel that had air conditioning and beds that were not made for winter. The owners said that screens were not needed. We live in Colorado and at certain times of the day - screens are not needed. Other times there are mosquitos and flies to contend with. My wife is a tad fragile and the trip between the bed and the bath at night is a challenge - lots of levels to trip over. Overall we thought the place was way overpriced and you would do well to avoid booking there. To their credit the owners offered the main house to us and tried to make us happy. We passed and went back home.

We had a delightful time at the Ice House. The hosts, Joan and Steve were very welcoming and friendly. My son and dogs loved running and exploring the property. Pretty, yes. Privacy, no. Wi-Fi, no. Keys and security, no. Clean, no. Pool, sort of.(you have to walk through the main house is property and you will be sitting right next-door to the main house in their backyard if you want to use the pool.) The pictures in the Vrbo make it seem like it is on your rental property, and it’s not.) No Wi-Fi, TV was iffy, zero privacy, mouse turds in pans and by beds. Could not cook on the property (dirty), and could not lock our doors. Dogs and donkeys roam the property and will be in your space as well. Your space is basically next-door to a main house where the owners are working and living all around you. Lastly, the pictures of the loft make it seem bigger than it is. There is a wooden ladder and tiny opening up to that area. There is no walking around or room to move up there.
