The Neighborhood:
Perched right on the city fringe, the main building is situated in Reid, one of Canberra’s oldest suburbs. Staying here means, you are at the heart of Canberra centre and get to enjoy leafy, tree-lined streets and large house blocks - an entire section of the suburb has even been heritage listed to protect the unique architecture of the homes in the area. It’s a short walk into the buzzing city centre, or even the restaurants and bars of the new Campbell 5 precinct or Braddon’s Lonsdale Street. And even though you’re right in the heart of town, it’s not hard to escape to nature - it’s walking distance to Mt Ainslie, where if you make the trip up, you’re treated to spectacular panoramic views of the nation’s capital.
The main building is situated right next to Civic, Canberra’s city centre. The Street names in the suburb were taken after Aboriginal words. The Australian War Memorial’s Anzac Parade, which runs along the ceremonial axis from Lake Griffin to the memorial, separates Reid from the neighbouring suburb of Campbell.
As one of the oldest suburbs in Canberra, Reid exudes a kind of old world charm, thanks to its 200 heritage homes and buildings and tree-lined boulevards. While it doesn’t have the busy locale of neighbouring Civic, Reid compensates with its quiet atmosphere, historic landmarks, and thriving art scene.
