This delightful cottage in the pines offers quiet and solitude along with the beauty and romance of California's central coast. The stained glass window's feature of the California Poppy hints at the whimsy inside. A combination of rich reds, greens and warmth of wood throughout draws you into the cabin's living room. Envision a blazing fire as you wonder where that book is that you have been meaning to read. The kitchen invites you in with colorful tile and open floor plan. An upward glance reveals a large loft bedroom. Once in the bedroom you wander out the French doors to the deck beyond. Go through the closet in the master bedroom to get to a studio room with a trundle bed and additional deck. Surrounded by trees, you can gaze up at the clear coastal night while the distant sounds of the ocean lull you to sleep. Our Third Time at Poppy Cottage
This is one of our favorite places to stay when we visit Cambria. It's generally above the fog, with many places to walk in the neighborhood. The location makes it convenient to much in the area.

What a wonderful home! we loved our time together in this quiet neighborhood. The beds were comfy, the kitchen was great, and loved the master bath shower! Thank you for making this home available to us! My parents had called San Siemon home for over 20 years and both just recently passed. This time in Cambria was precious to me and my girls as we remembered our treasured times with my parents. While we have lost their presence with us physically, being at the place they loved helped comfort us and made us feel close to them again. Erin

We will definitely come back when we come to Cambria. I saw a few comments about the location, We went over the hill and you were right at the entrance of Fiscalani Ranch which is a perfect beach hike. The town and Moonstone beach were a few minutes away. It's a perfect getaway as long as you understand the location is not beach front property. We hope you enjoy as much as we did!

Beautiful, Scenic Home
We loved most everything about this home except that the upstairs shower had no instructions about how to work it and we weren't provided with coffee. It was during the Thanksgiving holidays so we couldn't contact the property managers and that was of some concern. We tried calling and got no response back on our cell phones. But we did enjoy our stay and the balconies were so much fun to sit out on and we really loved the house.

Reviewer Comments: My wife and I found the architectural design intriguing and artistic, but not very functional or comfortable compared to the several other homes we have rented in Cambria.The Good: the kitchen was very well stocked with useful gadgets like a coffee mill, diverse cooking utensils, and genuinely sharp cutlery. The beds and bedding were of excellent quality as were towels and toilettries. There is a small enclosed dog run behind the house for your pooch which comes in very handy.The Bad: this house is a giant echo chamber where sound resonates all over. The "master bedroom" is not a room, but rather a loft open to downstairs noise, and heat from below makes it a pretty warm area for sleep. There are multiple large windows without any kind of shades or curtains in the upstairs, so anticipate rising with the dawn and using ear plugs if anybody stays up with the tv downstairs.The Simply Annoying: the gas cooktop needs to be replaced or repaired due to the burners not lighting without a flame from a match. The gas fireplace needs a remote, leading one to simply leave it on because the manual switch (which is broken but functional) is very awkward to activate. The driveway and the garage are not in alignment requiring a turn at the entrance to get the car in, and there is construction material stored on one side limiting the space for such a turn on pulling out. In the dark, it is challenging! And finally, while we rarely need it, there is no clothes dryer (or washer) so when you arrive wet, expect to air dry your damp clothes.

The house was dusty and the outside decks were filthy. I had to dust off the patio furniture. We couldn’t use the BBQ because it was rusty. Master shower faucet needed to be pulled out but I couldn’t do it since I had surgery. The property advertised a washer and dryer but it was located in an old dirty outside shed. The dryer did not work. A sign in the house suggested we take our dirty laundry home. Such a disappointment because this house could have been really nice. The walk down to the beach was not 18 minutes as it advertised. Won’t be back to Cambria for a long time.

Peaceful Poppy
We had an incredibly peaceful stay at Poppy house. The beds and linens are comfortable and the kitchen well equipped. Close to town but we enjoyed the trees, daily deer sightings and wild turkeys. We will be back!

Lovely Cabin for Small Family

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This is a lovely house with lots of light and a great kitchen that is well stocked with all of the tools that you will need to make great meals. The back yard is tiny and very shaded but a great place for dogs to nose around and it has a great gas grill. We found the sleeping arrangements a bit difficult, the bedroom on the ground floor is RIGHT NEXT TO the living room so if some is going to bed early, expect to be very quiet the rest of the night. The upstairs primary bedroom is open to the living room below so that too hears every sound from below. The beds are comfortable with lots of pillows and extra if needed. We did not use the pull out bed in the room attached to the primary bedroom but that is probably the nicest in the house with lots of light, a lovely balcony and nicely decorated. We visited in early July and it was very cool with a lot of fog, the fireplace and Centeral heating were very appreciated.

Comfortable retreat, beautiful location

There is a small pull out dining table and a lovely patio table and chairs under the trees. The auxiliary room is a great den/spare sleeping area but it was a little too cool for the baby in March. Wild turkey and deer passed through the yard multiple times a day. A pleasant five blocks from the trails and coastal views of the Fiscalini Ranch Preserve. There is a nice path through the wooded Strawberry Canyon nearby but use care, we found a tick afterwards; we always check. Great restaurants—Robbins, Hidden Kitchen, and The Spot. Wish we could have stayed longer.

Quaint Cozy Cottage in the Pines

It was very clean and well appointed, sits back in a very quiet neighborhood in the forest, with daily visits from wild turkeys wandering the neighborhood. Well appointed kitchen, and one upstairs large bedroom with spacious walk in shower, and a small downstairs bedroom with a comfy mattress. The kitchen was very nice with newer appliances. The house sits on a steep driveway incline, but has room for two smaller cars to sit on flat ground at top of hill in garage and adjacent to garage. Very nice cottage!

Loved Poppy Cottage
My husband and I spent 8 nights at the cottage. It’s a fun, quirky layout and very liveable. We stayed in the upstairs loft bedroom. The bed was very comfortable. The room adjoins the bathroom with separate toilet and sink area. There is a large shower that had plenty of heat and water pressure. The nozzle is a little hard to pull out but we figured it out. There is also a secret reading room/daybed with tv adjacent to the 2nd balcony, which is accessed through the walk in closet. The kitchen was easy to work in and fairly well stocked. Just remember to bring coffee and filters as there were none on hand. We enjoyed daily walks through the peaceful quiet neighborhood. The streets are lined with mature pines and California live oak trees. Flocks of wild turkeys, deer and gray squirrels were everywhere. We chose to drive 5 minutes to the Fiscalini ranch for ocean walks along the boardwalk, parked off of Windsor south of highway 1. Moonstone beach and of course the charming town area is only a 5 minute drive also. We love Cambria and would stay at the Poppy cottage again if the opportunity arises.

Great Location
Very well equipped and a very nice property. Outside furniture was too dirty to use. Needs a comprehensive clean. The kitchen was one of the best equipped ones we have ever rented. WiFi and cable TV with a Bose audio system too.
