Agriculture is still a big characteristic of Florencas environment and, of course, its very own helpful and friendly people, that still take care of their lands, growing their own vegetable, herbs & fruits, everyday! You couldn’t ask for better neighbors!
Recanto das Florenças consists of 3 “joint” houses but with completely separated entrance and parking. House n.º 1 is a two bedroom/two bathroom apartment and house n.º 2 is a one bedroom/one bathroom one, and this one with 1 bedroom / bathroom. Fully equipped with lounge and kitchen, and all the appliances you’ll eventually need are there. Besides, it’s located just a few minutes way from supermarkets, restaurants and coffee shops.
The village, Florenças, sits above the main one, Calheta, where its two sandy beaches and a new marina can provide you with plenty of fun activities, such as big game fishing and whalewatching. Located at an only 10-minute car trip away, Calheta has, also, to offer you, Spa treatments within two of its main hotels, plenty restaurants (for example, at the marina, too) and a (main) supermarket. Casa das Mudas international art gallery, with its award-winning contemporary architecture, is also a main attraction and feature of the village. For the more adventurous ones, dare to paraglide from the top of Calheta’s main cliffs. Besides that, Prazeres village, with its small but fun and children friendly zoo, is also a must. Its 300-year-old church and its fresh tea herb houses and gardens are at a 15-minutes car drive away and, of course, the famous levada walks, that need no introductions, are readily available throughout the region. As an example, the beautiful Rabaçal levada walk, with its natural beauty and record waterfall numbers, sits at Calheta’s main mountaintops and, from there, you can have a glance at both sides of the island at the same time – simply, a mesmerizing experience!
Just west of Calheta, Jardim do Mar (literally translated to “Sea garden”) and Paúl do Mar, are also two mandatory stopping places on an eventual trip to Calheta’s surroundings. Famous for its surfing waves, they’re a must stop place for surf and bodyboard lovers. Imagine, also, ending your day drinking a traditional poncha or even a mojito at their cosy and fun by-the-beach bars and restaurants, and you won’t need anything to complete an amazing day!
Besides surfing, Jardim do Mar offers you the opportunity to stroll or roller-skate around its new promenade, a beautiful seafront paved public walk.
Ponta Do Sol, within a 10-minute car drive away from Calheta (towards Funchal), provides you, besides another charming 200-metre-long seafront promenade, with many coffeehouses, hotels and restaurants visiting-worthy. Driving for 5 more minutes, you reach Ribeira Brava where, using the main island’s motorway or via rápida, you’ll be able to visit the island’s beautiful and amazing northside cliffs and beaches, getting there in a record time. The town’s church, with their sunlit sparkling chandeliers, and its new promenade, filled wish delicious pastries serving coffeeshops, is another must-stop place and, Funchal, the island’s capital city, within a 30-minutes-away drive, makes this island a more than a pleasure to visit.
