Property was ok, clean, but lots of damp throughout the property and repairs that need to be done. Outside area at back of property looks messy - not sure if this belongs to the property or not though

Buxton Weekend Break
Owners had to be chased for check in details but accessing the key was really easy after a late arrival in the snow. House was lovely and warm upon arrival and much more spacious than it looks from the outside. Lounge was spacious and comfortable with two large sofas, a coffee table and Freeview TV. Upon entering the kitchen, we were greeted by a hamper containing wine, beer, fruit, biscuits, sweets and crisps which was a very welcome surprise after the journey in horrendous weather. Dining kitchen was well equipped despite the grill being unpredictable, we did manage to cook a full roast dinner one day. Upstairs there are two doubles and a single. The beds were clean and comfortable but rooms on the front suffered road noise. The bathroom was functional though damp was seen around the window and we suffered a slight leak into the kitchen was the bath was used although no issue when only using the shower. The entrance hall downstairs was also slightly damp but it didn't affect our stay. The property is in a good location only a short drive from Buxton town centre and within walking distance of a lovely local pub serving great food. There was also a shop nearby but it left a lot to be desired. The farm shop, however, in the opposite direction was excellent and friendly. Overall, a good base for a family visiting the area.

Disappointing
Really lovely location with a good local pub and plenty of supermarkets a short drive away. We had no problem finding room for 3 cars a 1 minute walk away. All rooms feeling big and open. Homeowner is very friendly (on the phone, there was no need for face to face interaction) and as ever key box check-in/out was super easy and flexible. Shower was lovely. Unfortunately we were unable to feel comfortable in the cottage upon arrival due to the poor levels of cleaning. Though it smelt fresh, attention to detail such as crumbs on the table suggested the surfaces had not been cleaned which particularly given the current climate was a red flag. There was also dust and dirt on eye level shelves and around the edges of the floor, and greasy kitchen trays which makes you question if cups and cutlery ect. had been cleaned or they just hoped the previous guests had done so. Also lots of cobwebs, which is forgivable but lazy. Whilst attention has been paid to the detail of decorating the cottage which is a big draw when booking, do beware it could do with a freshen up as the carpets are heavily stained and walls need a fresh coat of paint, especially the entry hall which seemed to be riddled with damp? (Not the best impression!) Also, one of the slats in the bed was broken but placed back (so just fell off) and the oven doesn't seem to work properly.
