We stayed at the Scenic Ridge Guest House during the total solar eclipse weekend from Apr 6-9 and it was an amazing stay. Not only was the house very clean, but it had everything we could need for in amenities, including satellite internet, games to entertain the family, neighboring horses, and a large DVD collection for kids to watch. We were able to cook some great meals in the fully equipped kitchen and roast marshmallows in the firepit with the metal roasting sticks and plenty of firewood provided. At night, the stars were visible and amazing to just sit in the rocking chairs on the porch to relax and observe. Nearby, at Malabar Farm State Park, we were also surprised to learn that The Shawshank Redemption was filmed in the area.
The highlight of the trip was being able to see the total solar eclipse from the property itself which gave us 2 mins of totality. The weather was 70F and very low amount of clouds so we could not have been luckier to see this once in a lifetime event. Our family was able to hang out on the front lawn, see the eclipse and run our various experiments to see the effects of the solar eclipse. For the totality itself, which was the first time for a majority of our group, it was a breathtaking experience.
I would highly recommend staying here again, especially for large groups since the house is spacious and full of various activities to keep everyone entertained. The host, Joann, was very communicative and ensured we had everything we needed.
