Location is fantastic!
Overall the place was great. We loved the porch and sitting back and listening to the creek all day. Its not too far from Burnsville where theres a great brewery and a grocery store. I wish that the listing had been more clear about the home not having air conditioning. Once we got there and realized it didn't, I went back and realized it wasn't listed as an "amenity" but this is NC in the summer - where I assume all places have AC. I feel that the listing should be more clear that the home does not have AC. Overall it was clean, but it does need more of a focused clean. There were a lot of spiderwebs in the ceiling and there was trash and cigarette butts left around the fire pit. I realize this is probably from the last renter but seeing it didn't leave a great first impression. The check-in instructions in VRBO said there was a key under a statue on the porch, but the emailed instructions were different (theres a new electronic lock). But we couldn't figure out how to lock the electronic lock when we left. Also, the book provided by the owner said the key to the tubes/kayaks was in a basket on the kitchen counter, which was not accurate. He responded quickly to my message letting me know where it was, but it was frustrating that the information provided wasn't accurate. Also, be aware that the internet is very slow. Two cell phones using it at once made it almost unusable. I know this may not be the owner's fault as it is a rural area, but something to know.

Beautiful Cabin and Location - Needs Some Attention
We stayed here 5 years ago and it was awesome. The location and the cabin are beautiful. We love the huge fireplace! However, some things were not as good this trip. There was no knob on the bedroom heater and the living room heater knob spins all the way around so you have no idea of the setting. All the windows could use a good cleaning to enjoy the wonderful view of the river. Curtains were dusty and we wiped out the fridge and stove top when we arrived. Water pressure in shower is very low and bathroom sink takes a while to drain. This is a beautiful place to stay, I just think it is not being kept up like it used to be.

What a great the cabin with the sound of the river and cool breeze at night. The family enjoyed playing in the water right behind the cabin. The dogs loved it as well. I will be staying here again.

Riverside Peaceful Gem
We returned to the Burnsville area after a lovely stay over winter break last year. The property is as special as described. With mornings on the deck with coffee listening to the river gurgle or evenings by the fireplace with the provided wood. It was clear extra care was taken to thoroughly clean the cabin with Covid precautions. We also found it well appointed including a couple small holiday touches for our year end stay. One note, the driveway is steep. Certainly navigable but we were glad to have chosen a small SUV instead of the sedan as a rental car. Also there is a similar cabin across the river a bit downstream. There were people there but we never heard them. Otherwise it's a very secluded spot. We are so grateful to Joe and Lila for offering up this special gem for our year's end getaway.

Quiet and secluded
This pet friendly cabin is located in a very secluded area just outside Burnsville N.C. It is right on the South Toe River and very peaceful and relaxing. We visited five Tennessee State Parks in east Tennessee and two North Carolina State Parks and went to Grandfather Mountain and hiked five miles on the Appalachian Trail from Carvers Gap. It was nice to come back to a quiet cabin to rest up for our next adventure! The cabin had everything we needed. We picked up the groceries at Ingles Market in Burnsville before going to the cabin. The driveway is a little steep, but we made it just fine in our car. Great place to spend our 2021 Fall Break! Thank you Joe for letting us stay in your cabin. We will recommend it to others coming to the area! D'Wayne and Melissa Tennessee

Beautiful Cabin!
We just returned from our second visit to the cabin this year. We liked it so much in May that we booked a week in October. It is clean, well-appointed and conveniently located to the Blue Ridge Parkway, Mt. Mitchell and the Pisgah National Forest. Asheville is just 45 minutes away. The sight and sound of the river from the porch makes it ideal for relaxation. We highly recommend this property and will be back!

Wonderful cozy retreat in the woods
This cabin was amazing and the rental experience was great. We got an email a few days beforehand with clear instructions on how to access the property. The location is gorgeous, nestled in the woods by the river. Very private. There is another cabin across the river downstream a little, but we couldn't really see it from inside our cabin. The driveway was startlingly steep but definitely manageable in our Outlander. The cabin was beautiful and clean. The sound of the river was so relaxing. Our favorite feature was the fireplace, which we used every evening. Very lovely cabin!

Perfectly secluded and private
This is exactly the vacation we wanted. The driveway was a little scary think going over the top of a roller coaster hill; I'd highly recommend a suv or AWD/4WD vehicle. There is no AC. We stayed mid-Sept and were comfortable; we opened all the windows. We spent so much time at the river; there;s a beach like area and a rock island to the left side of the property. Our dogs had a ball playing in the river and exploring the property. There is a cabin across the river but that is the only house nearby. One of our guys even learned to open the screen door to go out and let himself back in. We only left the property to go to the grocery store and pick up takeout from Pig and Grits (highly recommend). We will be back next year.

very backwoods feel in a great cabin that's hidden from the hustle and bustle we wanted to get away
great location right on the south Toe River, wake up to the river rushing below. fairly close to everything but you would not to be running out all the time. The driveway is something. Steep and winding and gravel a pickup or all wheel drive handles it well however.

Relaxing & Recharging on South Toe River
The cabin and grounds exceeded our expectations. We loved our view of the river from both the deck and the bank. The sound was so relaxing! We loved the cabin’s seclusion as well as its proximity to downtown Burnsville. We enjoyed Homeplace, Snapdragon, Appalachian Java, and Pig & Grits which are all dog friendly. Definitely check out the Saturday Farmer’s Market if you can! The Blue Ridge Parkway was easily accessible and visited Linville Falls and Mount Mitchell State Park. Highly recommend! We are so thankful that we could include our rescue beagle Bella on our vacation . Thank you for the opportunity to relax, read, recharge, and reflect.

We have returned to this property many times over seven years and we have already booked three weeks for next year. This “feet up” location is always cool and shady. The owners are very responsive to needs that may arise such as the tv and internet. We can’t wait to return to the cabin and to enjoy the newly energized town of Burnsville as well.

A Gorgeous Riverfront Getaway
A peaceful, much needed getaway for 9 nights. The sound and sight of the river were mesmerizing. We enjoyed having fires both inside and outside, depending on the weather and temperature. There was plenty of firewood available, which by experience we know that many cabin owners do not supply in the summer. The first 2 days it was very rainy but we enjoyed sitting on the covered deck enjoying the rain and river. Once the rain cleared out, we hit the river- tubing, kayaking, rock hunting and sitting on rocks soaking in the sun. My husband did some fishing and only caught 1 baby small mouth bass, but still enjoyed being in the river. Every night we played games and listened to scary podcasts. We loved every minute of our stay and when I had questions Joseph or the co-host got back to me immediately. Be sure to make some hummingbird feed out of sugar and water. You will not be disappointed in how many will come by for a sip- and fight over the feeder. We called it hummingbird wars.

Beautiful little cabin on the gorgeous South Toe River!
My husband and I spent 3 nights at this cabin. We most enjoyed sitting on the deck and gazing at/listening to the lovely stretch of river right in front of us. My husband fly fished (no luck, but maybe next time!) and I tried out tubing. The weather was pretty rainy, so we didn't get a chance to kayak or build a fire in the fire pit. Hope to return!

Wonderful Cabin and Location
This cabin was in a beautiful setting on the banks of the South Toe River. It was very serene and very private. We spent a lot of time fly fishing. River access was easy and very safe. The cabin was well-equipped and just a perfect setting for those wanting to get away from it all. Hiking trails in Pisgah National Forest and Mt. Mitchell are just 30-40 minutes away. We had a wonderful week and are planning to return in the Fall. We highly recommend this cabin.

Anniversary Getaway
From the moment I got out of the car and heard the river, I knew we had picked the right cabin. The cabin itself is very nice, clean and well stocked with anything you need. Beds very comfortable and the heaters kept us warm. But it’s the outside that really makes the trip. Sitting out on the swing listening to the water was so relaxing. We also found a hammock in the storage space so we put that up and had a nice afternoon nap. Weather was to cool to use any of the tubes or kayaks, but there are plenty to use. We are hoping to come back soon!!
