Although Angkor Wat in Cambodia is the granddaddy of them all, a number of Khmer temples can also be found in Thailand, many in the Isan region.

Prasat Muang Tam is located near Buriram, Thailand, and is about 8 kilometers away from another Khmer gem, Prasat Phanom Rung. Although frequented by Thais these beauties are pretty far off of the beaten track for many other tourists, but well-worth the detour.

"Having stayed here 4 years before the hotel has changed to a more Thai clientele this now means breakfast is more Thai based and selections for European breakfast items are very limited. We were woken up most days at 7 am by guests staying in the room above running across the floor above us and what sounded like dragging things across the floor and as well as guests having conversations outside our ground floor window. Most mornings. "

"Beautiful property and our room has a great view of the garden in the mornings. Staff were great and even though the parking is up the street, the golf cart driver always arrived at the parking lot before we were fully parked to deliver us back to the hotel. Simple buffet augmented by cook to order eggs and other dishes was really tasty. "
