Located in a largely ethnically Turkish neighborhood of Brussels, the Hotel Meribél is located not far from the Brussels Nord station (one stop to the airport), the Botanical Gardens, and the Botanique metro stop. It is about a 20-minute walk to the Grand Place down the Rue Royale.
The property itself looks to be renovated in a building constructed for another purpose, and my room was on the small side (though fairly typical for this kind of family-owned property). There was plentiful hot water in the shower, the bed was comfortable, and there is a small backyard off the dining area off the lobby.
Continental breakfast begins at 7:00 on weekdays and consists of a variety of sliced meats, cheeses, vegetables, and fruits, with cereal, yogurt, and dried fruits along with a variety of fresh (as in brought in from the bakery each morning) pastries and breads, juices and milk. There is a coffee machine available 24/7.
While I did not find the neighborhood to be unsafe, one walking routes from Brussels Nord to the hotel takes you through the red light district. If you like pide (Turkish pizza) and similar foods, there are many good dining options close at hand. It’s not far from the Rogierplein and two very popular (but touristy) shopping streets.
