Stay in Tree House built by TreeHouse Master Pete Nelson ~ off the grid

Welcome to EarthJOY Treehouse Village!

We’re thrilled you found us! Nestled deep in nature, our village is a sanctuary for those who seek adventure, unplug from technology, and embrace the magic of the outdoors. If you love to play, explore, and experience one-of-a-kind stays, you’re in the right place.

The treehouse you’re viewing is best suited for two adults and 3-4 children. Before booking, please take a moment to read through the details below to ensure this unique treehouse experience aligns with your expectations.

Your Treehouse Stay

This enchanting treehouse features a king-size bed and three cozy hammocks in the living space. The hammocks easily clip to the side when not in use, allowing for more open space. A detached private bathroom with a shower, sink, and toilet is just a three-minute walk away for your convenience.

At EarthJOY Treehouse Village, we offer three stunning treehouses spread across 285 acres of private land—far enough apart for privacy yet close enough to rent together for a group adventure. Think of us as a luxury glamping experience where you’re deeply connected to nature through the treehouse’s artificial limbs that intertwine with the surrounding trees.

Inside Your Treehouse

Designed by the legendary Pete Nelson (a.k.a. the Treehouse Master), this treehouse was featured on Animal Planet’s "Treehouse Masters" in Season 4, Episode 6 as The Kentucky Climbers Cottage! It’s our largest floor plan, boasting an oversized loft, a wood-burning stove, and an open-concept design that brings nature inside through its charming barn doors.

Your treehouse is off-grid yet still equipped with essential comforts:

Electricity & Lighting

Full Kitchenette – Four-burner stove, mini-fridge, and all necessary cookware

Climate Control – Air conditioning, a space heater, and a wood-burning stove for cozy nights

Private Bathhouse – A short 3-minute walk with a flushing toilet, shower, towels, and toiletries

Compost Toilet – Just five seconds from your treehouse for quick trips at night

Outdoor Adventure Awaits

Step outside, and an entire enchanted forest awaits you! Beneath your treehouse, you’ll find:

A fire pit surrounded by four Adirondack chairs

A giant, netted hammock suspended under the treehouse

A swinging chair to soak in the sights and sounds of nature

Our 20 miles of themed hiking trails invite you to explore landscapes filled with hidden wonders:

The Hobbit Treehouse Trail – Seek out 10 hidden hobbit houses, then make a wish in the magical creek beneath the oldest tree on the property.

Cabana Village Trail – Lounge in a suspended tree pod built for two, perfect for reading, meditating, or even drumming the floor to create a giant musical instrument!

Jacob’s Ladders Trail – A prayerful memorial path where guests hang wind chimes to honor lost loved ones, whispering memories into the forest.

The Sunset Trail – Trek to a 360-degree panoramic overlook, perfect for golden hour magic.

Star Gazer Field – Certified as a Dark Sky Area, offering breathtaking views of the Milky Way.

For thrill-seekers, The Five Tree Grove offers guided tree climbing experiences, where a professional facilitator will take you to the treetops! Learn special climbing techniques—including how to descend upside-down—or lounge in the massive green net among the branches.

Additional Details & Recommendations

Wood for the Stove: Order a bundle of firewood delivered to your treehouse for $50 per load (about 25 pieces, enough for one night), or bring your own (logs must be 12 inches or shorter). We recommend bringing a fire starter unless you’re an expert fire-builder!

Check-In: 4:00 PM standard check-in. Want to arrive earlier? A 1:30 PM early check-in is available for $50 (paid directly to our cleaning crew). We highly recommend booking two nights to fully immerse yourself in everything the property has to offer.

Wildlife & Nature: You are deep in the woods, so expect to encounter deer, turkeys, squirrels, rabbits, owls, and occasionally cows and horses! While rare, you may see the occasional mouse, wasp, or flying insect—especially if you leave the barn doors open overnight (we advise closing them before heading out).

Explore the Surrounding Area

Beyond the treehouse, you’ll find hidden gems in historic small towns nearby:

Augusta, KY – Stroll along the Ohio River, visit George Clooney’s childhood hometown, and grab a bite at the Beehive Tavern for riverside fine dining.

Ripley, OH – Take a charming ferry ride across the river and explore a town steeped in Underground Railroad history.

Maysville, KY – A historic downtown with fantastic dining at Parc Café (an Italian café replica) and Lil’ Jumbo, a local favorite.

Quick Eats & Essentials – Need a quick bite? Order a pizza from the Germantown First Stop gas station (just four miles away), or stock up on supplies there.

A Dream That Became Reality

This treehouse isn’t just a place to stay—it’s the realization of a childhood dream.

As a child, I longed for a treehouse where I could find peace and adventure. My siblings and I would play in the woods, building imaginary treehouses from branches, moss, and stones. That dream never faded.

In 2007, my husband Bill and I launched EarthJOY Tree Adventures, offering guided tree climbs. We wanted our guests to not only climb trees—but live among them. In 2009, we attended Pete Nelson’s Treehouse Workshop and searched endlessly for the perfect land—until fate stepped in.

One day, on a whim, I applied to Animal Planet’s "Treehouse Masters." When they called to say we’d been selected, I had no land to offer. That’s when I called my dad.

"Can we build a treehouse on your farm?" I asked.

He laughed, then said, "YES!" His dream of running a massive cattle farm shifted, and our treehouse dream took root instead.

In December 2014, our dream became a reality. Not only do we enjoy the treehouses ourselves, but we love sharing this magic with others. Our guests don’t just stay in a treehouse—they become part of its story.

Now, it’s your turn.

Come lose yourself in the magic of the forest, embrace the adventure that awaits, and find peace in the treetops.

Your enchanted escape begins here.

Incredible!
EarthJoy is an incredible retreat not far from the hustle and bustle of Cincinnati. Our family (ages 11-56) absolutely loved our weekend in Pete Nelson’s treehouse and Shelly and Bill’s 285 acre property. Thank you!

View from the treetops
Overall, we had a great experience in the treehouse. It took us back to our youth as scouts with latrine duty, fire building, boiling water for washing dishes/ditty bags and endless hikes with all means if flora and fauna regardless of the weather.

Great Escape to Mother Nature!
What a wonderful escape from the daily grind. Breathing in the fresh air and enjoying nature up close was truly refreshing and invigorating. We especially enjoyed building a fire in the wood stove and playing cards and board games. It rained all night so was the best nights' sleep I've had in ages.

Loved it!
We absolutely loved staying in the Pete Nelson treehouse! Everything was wonderful - from the first instructions/directions we received, to the property, to the amenities, and of course the treehouse itself! We had a great family get-away - nice to unplug, grill out, enjoy nature, etc. Hoping to come back next year and stay again! Thanks for everything!

Sirenity in the trees!
Another wonderful weekend with friends! We even attempted the tree climb-! The fall temps were great for a hike and the fireplace was great and kept us very warm. Love the Pete Nelson, hope to be back next year, I highly recommend any of the Ky climbers treehouses. They're all just great!

Unique retreat in the trees
Wonderful treehouse in Kentucky. Awake to hear the birds singing and lounge in the hammock or cook breakfast on the grill. Return to nature in style on the 200 acre property. Take a hike to a large three person hammock or throw rocks in the stream while cows graze nearby. This is secluded, but that's why your here right? You can also drive into nearby Augusta and walk along the Ohio River.

Nice but listing pictures are confusing/outdated
We liked it but honestly it’s a little pricey for what it is. Out of date pictures make it hard to understand the layout and we ended up bringing things we didn’t need because the listing is light on details for the kitchenette. Would be nice if the other rentals at this property were listed on Vrbo because it is hard to know if there will be nearby neighbors or not from the listing.

Secluded Location -- Very relaxing & peaceful
We came to the Tree House for a new adventure. The Tree House was very clean. Although we had read the property description, we packed as if we were on a primitive camping trip, just to be sure we had what we needed. When we arrived, we found the owner had provided plenty of additional battery operated lighting, and other essentials such as a dish cloth, dish towel, and dish soap. There were plenty of blankets and pillows. We enjoyed the hammock in the back yard. The hiking was fun and the three person hammock at the top of the ridge was so nice! We appreciated the bathhouse facility. It was clean and well lit. There are two doors to the bathhouse. One door for each tree house. Indoor plumbing here with a sink, toilet, and shower. (Hooray!) We had a great relaxing time at the tree house and plan to return in the Autumn.

Relaxing treehouse adventure
Bill and Shelly have really outdone themselves in their journey of creating Earthjoy. You can tell there is so much love put into each and everything they offer. The hiking, the slides big enough to sit up in, the wind chime forest where you can hang a chime for your lost loved ones, the old 1800 house, the hanging sitting spots throughout the site, and all the fun they offer for children. We stayed in the Pete Nelson Treehouse and it was beautiful and so fun. Loved the giant doors to see outside, the ninja obstacles and swing for kids, the hammock for two, and the awesome fire pit to enjoy and relax at night with s’mores and hotdogs. The bathhouse was so cozy and you have it all to yourself. It was nice to have a relaxing to shower and wash our hands. The buck stove in the living room kept us warm at night by fire but they also had a space heater that kept us extra cozy. The best part of the trip was the kids snd husband learned how to climb a tree with Bill. They were harnessed, had a helmet, could swing from the rope, and come down upside down. They absolutely loved it and what a unique and fun experience to fully appreciate all the trees have to offer. We packed too much and bought too much food, but we will know better next time what to bring and what not to bring. It was truly an exciting, wonderful experience that they have built for tree lovers alike to enjoy and we will definitely be coming back. Thanks Shelly and Bill!!!

Birthday getaway in winter
When we found this pete Nelson treehouse we thought heck yes, bucket list. We were a bit concerned about warmth and really prepared but the wood stove was awesome and we were actually too warm at night. The place has what you need plus as long as you think primitive vs convenience lodging. It was great and the trails were fun. The stars amazing. And the cell coverage better than expected. We'd definitely come back in spring or fall to expand on our wonderful winter retreat.

Great weekend getaway
We had a great trip in the Pete Nelson tree house. It rained the entire time we were there so we were stuck inside the entire time but that did not stop us from having a blast! We turned on the wood burning stove, roasted marshmallows and played games the entire night. It was the relaxing weekend we wanted. We can't wait to come back when the weather is nicer so we can explore the property a bit more.

Amazing, adventurous, and one of a kind
Our three children, my husband and I enjoyed our two night stay. We played card games, hiked numerous trials, picnicked in the great outdoors. We appreciated the freedom to explore. And it was an added bonus that our dog could join us on this adventure. A notebook in the tree house gave suggestions for activities and restaurants in towns nearby. But we received a personal introduction to the tree house, how to heat it, and suggestions on grocery stores from Shelly herself. We were able to build a campfire and roast marshmallows, and really enjoy nature and each other. Shelly is a fantastic host!

Little Slice of Heaven
This place is a little slice of Heaven nestled in the woods in Germantown, KY. My family and I have spent several nights in one of their tree houses, relaxing and exploring on several hikes through the woods, across the creeks and through the meadows on the property. It was a great time away to unplug and unwind and create some amazing family memories. Our kids keep asking when we will go back for another visit. And the staff of this family owned gem are the best. I highly recommend them.

JUST WHAT I NEEDED AND WAS LOOKING FOR !!!
As soon as we drove up, I was instantly excited!!! If you love to the outdoors, and just a sense of stillness and peacefulness, this is the place to go. Both of the tree houses are beyond beautiful inside and out, but the best part is that it feels as though you are lost in a dream, in this enchanted forest with no worries at all. There are plenty of things to keep you occupied and what I loved is that they provided us with a list of things to do on the property, as well as local. We never had to waste our time to think about what we should do! Total PERK! My favorite experience was walking the trails and felling a different, yet uplifting experience every turn we made. Sometimes its nice for that simple release that we all need sometimes and can't find. To end the night, there is nothing like a great bonfire in the middle of the woods, drinking an ice cold beer with no interruptions and being able to just enjoy my time! I definitely recommend staying here and if you can, no less than 2 nights bc after the first night, I promise you, you won't want to leave! I'm already anticipating my next stay!! Btw, the owners are so genuine and nice and only strive for you to have the best time that you can!
