Staying at the Old Ship Hotel is a glimpse into the past - the history is wonderful and the location is great . Our room was a decent size and comfortable, other than the bed that we found too soft , and it does show its age in the furniture and carpets and so on - but still a great stay , we’ll be back

I did not sleep well on my second (and last) night due to guests upstairs being nosy and heavy footed after midnight. However, the night staff were so helpful and spoke with the guests twice asking them to quieten down. I was even offered a room change.

The stay was absolutely fine and comfortable, where the slightly lower scores are as a result of some areas of the hotel look a little tired and worn out; however this was and has been reflected in the budget price. You get what you pay for and the room was clean enough. Some molud on the ceiling but nothing too much to worry about.

Nice, helpful staff, and lovely Christmas decorations around the reception area. As noted by previous reviews, it could do with a refurb but it’s not ancient. Room had had a half effort clean, with a spoon on the floor and all sorts of stuff under the bed. Shower one day took 5 mins to warm up, and the other day did not warm up at all. I was in a rush to leave so could not inform staff. If you’re looking for a bed for a night then it’s alright, anything more than that then you may be disappointed.

Hotel is looking very tired, with tatty furniture in the lounge area and empty glasses left all over the hotel: the management seem more interested in people coming in and having a few pints and playing pool rather than the people actually staying there, it used to be one of my favourite places to stay in Brighton but it needs a refurb urgently and aim at providing something more refined.

like the history of the place but room was freezing cold with no heating control in the rooms and it being deliberately heated as little as possible to save money. Shower was cold in the morning, May as well gone in the sea. But for the money its fine, it was clean and quiet but some simple improvements could make it good

This hotel has the perfect location, we have stayed twice and would recommend The rooms are older and could maybe do with a freshen up but does not hinder your stay at all The only downside I had was there were no plug sockets next to bed for a phone but in the grand scale easy to live with it

What attracted me to this hotel was its location and the fact that it has been a hotel for hundreds of years. It didn’t disappoint. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Our rooms were small, but comfortable and clean. It was close to the Royal Pavilion, which was reason for the visit, but we also enjoyed walking through the Lanes nearby. And being across the street from the ocean front was great.

Charming old fashioned hotel
Great old hotel on the seafront. Lovely people at check in, our room was upgraded at no cost to sea view. Room was old fashioned but exactly what you’d expect in an old fashioned hotel. Coffee & tea making things, really comfortable bed! Lovely old lift in the hotel from the 1920’s!! All really charming. Had drinks in the bar, friendly staff, nice bar. Seafront was noisy overnight, Saturday night, but what do you expect in a busy town? Wasn’t a problem. If you want silence don’t book a hotel on a busy seafront!! We had a great stay and couldn’t fault this charming old hotel with all its creaky floorboards, quirks and old fashioned style! Really great position to walk to town & station and great sea view!
