Charming Dorset Cottage.
Berry Farm Cottage nestles in a private area of the grounds of Berry Farm, which dates back to the 16th century. It is located in the charming Conservation Village of Walditch which is noted in the Domesday Book of 1086. When you arrive, you will absolutely understand why the whole of this area is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
The popular market town of Bridport, with its great arts scene, independent shops, ‘vintage quarter’ and many bars and restaurants, is only one mile away. And as for the beach? The World Heritage Jurassic Coast and famous West Bay (setting for the ITV drama ‘Broadchurch’) is also only 2.5 miles away.
The Cottage itself is set away from the main house in its own private grounds, with 1,200sqm (0.3acres) of orchard garden, including 18 apple, cherry and plum trees, as well as an outside patio with table and chairs.
To add to the countryside feel, adjoining this large garden is a field which, apart from (normally) November – February, is home to a flock of sheep - with newborn lambs arriving in springtime! (Note that, as this is not our flock of sheep, we cannot absolutely guarantee the periods that they will be in the field). Also, don’t be surprised if you see the odd deer in the garden.
The Cottage has recently been completely refurbished internally with great attention to detail, in order to provide a lovely, cosy country cottage with many stylish and quirky touches.
There are 2 bedrooms (1 double on the first floor and 1 twin on the ground floor) and each has their own bathroom with walk in shower. Towels are provided and a full linen change is provided weekly for our longer staying guests.
The open-plan Sitting room has two double sofas, a flat screen Freeview television, DVD player, with shelves full of books, DVD’s, and games. There is also an Amazon 'Alexa' Smart-Speaker provided in the Cottage, for those guests who wish to use it. This offers a wide range of music and artists, as well as access to radio as well as being able to answer voice activated 'Google-type' requests for information.
Our younger guests are also very important at Berry Farm Cottage, so as well as the large orchard garden for them to play in, we also provide many books, toys and games for them too! For very young guests, we can provide a highchair as well as stair security gates - both on advance request - and free of charge.
Dual aspect windows allow a bright and airy feel year-round. The fireplace is electric and offers a realistic looking 'wood-burning stove' fire for those colder winter nights.
The dining area is in a ‘bistro’ style, and, with a choice of overhead light, picture lights and surrounding LED strip, this can be lit differently for each mealtime!
The adjoining kitchen is fully equipped with oven and dishwasher, microwave, kettle and a full complement of required crockery, cutlery and glasses. There is a separate 'Baking Box' provided for those guests who wish to take advantage of the many apples from the trees in the orchard during 'apple-picking season'. We have heard from previous guests of many successful 'Barry Farm Cottage Crumbles' that have been baked! The pantry is stocked with essential items such, including a generous spice rack (in case you forget to bring your Garam Masala!) and oils and vinegars. Similarly, the kitchen drawers have full of basic items such as aluminium foil, clingfilm and Tupperware etc.).
The utility room on the ground floor houses the washing machine and freezer. as well as a clothes horse and pegs. In warmer months, an outdoor whirligig is also provided for drying clothes.
There is private parking for two vehicles beside the cottage.
Note that Berry Farm is not a working farm.
Note also that we ensure that Berry Farm Cottage is presented according to the ages of our guests and at whatever time of year they will be arriving - for example; for young children, we will ensure that there are children's books in their bedroom, during warmer months sunbeds and barbecue will be available, and the Cottage will be decorated for guests staying over Christmas.
