Enter Gran Burrone Castle (named after Rivendell Castle), a preserved slice of medieval Italy with this meticulously-restored, historic property. Consisting of a conspicuously-maintained 10th century Tower and Castle, this hilltop home offers eye-opening views of the Serchio River Valley (called Mediavalle), olive groves and vineyards.

Grill the perfect Barbeque at the poolside outdoor kitchen under the porch, then, dine at the alfresco set, alongside lush Italian gardens and unforgettable quiet. Whether you will later visit Lucca for the best sightseeing or Borgo a Mozzano for an ice cream and a river-side resting walk, returning to Gran Burrone Castle will catapult you back to its origins as a medieval stop for knights and pilgrims who traveled the Via Francigena from England to the Holy Land.

Outfitted to modern standards while retaining original interiors, details and decoration, the scenic town of Lucca is within a 25 min drive, Bagni di Lucca 10 mins drive, Castelnuovo Garfagnana 25 mins drive, Pisa and Florence 45 to 60 mins drive, Cinque Terre 1 hour and 20 mins.

COMPOSITION:
Ground Floor: entrance, grand dining table (throne room), living room, kitchen, 1 toilet, panoramic terrace.
Lower Floor: SPA with jacuzzi, wine cellar with private selection of the owner of the Castle (bottles can be bought), porch with outdoor dining, BBQ and outdoor kitchen
First Floor: 3 bedrooms laid out as follows: 2 bedrooms with 2 ensuite bathrooms, 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom

Notes: it is possible to reach the entrance gate of the garden by car through an unpaved country road, alternatively it is possible to leave the car at the parking outside the property and reach the rental on foot (140 metres away).
Fireplaces are not in use.
A wonderful cat which is the soul of the Castle lives in the garden. She loves people and cuddles, she is the most photographed character in the village, many of the castle's previous guests have dedicated drawings, rhymes and dedications to her in our guest book.

The perfect stay!
A warm welcome at a wonderful home, breathtaking views… Everything you may wish for… and more, is provided for you at Gran Burrone… The nicest place ever to get away from the crowd and yet go to Lucca (a favourite!), Pisa, Florence, Sienne after nice drives through lovely landscapes…

Unfassbar einzigartig!
Wir waren auf der Suche nach einer Unterkunft die uns uns unseren Kindern in den Köpfen bleibt und nach langer Suche auf diversen Portalen, sind wir auf das Gran Burrone gestoßen, das zufällig auch in unserer Reisezeit frei war. Die Kommunikation war tip top und auch die Beschreibungen, die wir online gefunden haben trafen 1:1 zu. Das Haus ist etwas abgelegen ca. 35min von Lucca entfernt auf einer Anhöhe. Der Ort ansich hat nur wenige Einwohner und der nahegelegene Ort (mit Penny, Restaurants usw.) lässt sich schnell mit Auto erreichen. Die Bergstraße ist breit genug für eine Mercedes V-Klasse aber man sollte bedenken, dass man nicht mit einem Auto (ausser Fiat500 oder FiatPanda) zum Objekt hin fahren kann, womit man das Gepäck tragen (oder rollen) muss. Der Besitzer war unfassbar nett und hat uns diverse Tips gegeben und er wäre auch ständig bereit gewesen uns weitere Tips und Empfehlungen zu geben, nur hatten wir bereits eine sehr genaue Vorstellung von Unternehmungen mit den Kids. Auch eine Sache die man beachten sollte mit Kindern: es gibt viele Treppen und man befindet sich am Berg. Unser 1,5 Jähriger Sohn musste hin und wieder eingefangen werden. Und das Wetter spielt in den Bergen des öfteren nicht mit dem Wetterbericht. Ansonsten können wir es definitiv weiterempfehlen und würden auch gerne wieder kommen!
