Holidays in the monument combines heritage preservation and tourism. Historically valuable construction tools are taken over, gently renovated and rented as holiday apartments. The model makes a double profit: the monuments get a new future and holidaymakers experience a stay in an extraordinary building. The idea is realized by the foundation Ferien im Baudenkmal (FiB), which was founded in 2005 by the Swiss Homeland Security
Parking: There is a covered parking directly at the house. The house is on a hillside and can be reached via a dirt road. The sometimes steep stairs and uneven floors pose a stumbling hazard. The doors in the house are very low. The plank floor in the room is original and was used for centuries with nailed shoes. We recommend good slippers.
Public transport: The public transport connections are unfortunately not ideal. By train to Grengiols. The train station is 15 minutes walk from the village center and then another 30 minutes walk to Zenhäusern.
Number of persons 6: There is a cot (up to 2 years) available. The house sleeps six guests (plus baby). From the entrance you enter the corridor on the right it goes directly into the very cozy kitchen from there you enter the dining room where also a typical for the region box bed. From the room two doors lead into the bedrooms. Left of the hall there is a shower / WC and a separate toilet. There is a double room, a room with a bunk bed and a double bed in the living room for two people.
Garden: The covered seating is available to the holiday guests.
WLAN: Is available.
Open: The house can be rented all year round.
Pets are not allowed.

History & Information
The magnificent and picturesque house was most likely used as a podium seat. This is how the beautiful façade decorations can be explained. The building was abandoned more than 50 years ago by the last tenants. Due to the maintained roof, the monument was preserved in this condition, which is an extraordinary stroke of luck. The building was gently renovated and largely retained its original shape. The apartment can accommodate up to 6 people. The historic kitchen, supplemented with new elements, leads to the new building, which houses the wet cells. The tapestry doors between the parlor and the chambers are to be emphasized as a successful detail of the renovation: they were sawn out of the existing wall, meticulously adapted and thus optimally integrated.
The whole house can be rented: With a steep staircase, the apartment on the ground floor can be connected to the one above. If you wish to have a connection to the apartment please note this at the reservation. The connection requires a small renovation, which can not be done by the guests.
renovation
The architecture office WALLISER ARCHITEKTEN in Brig has implemented the objectives in exemplary fashion together with the preservation of monuments. The aim was to preserve the old structure and the character of the house and to supplement it with new technologies. Thus, the house is heated again with floor and wall heating via a heat pump. Elements such as the old dreams, the well-worn floors, fire pits and Giltsteinöfen still bear witness to the long history of the house. The resulting apartment offers space in two rooms and in the room for up to 6 people. The historic kitchen, supplemented with new elements, leads to the new building, which houses the wet cells. The tapestry doors between the parlor and the chambers are to be emphasized as a successful detail of the renovation: they were sawn out of the existing wall, meticulously adapted and thus optimally integrated.
The southern extension was rebuilt in a contemporary way analogous to the design of the old building. In order to resume the concept of the historical shell wall, the new exterior wall was executed in pened exposed concrete. The synthesis of old and new is an example of success, which is also evident in the transition from the residential building to the southern extension.
