Du Bourg - old town house
History & Information
The core of the late medieval house, is located in the historic center of Biel am Burgplatz. For many years, the monument was uninhabited and decayed increasingly, until the entire property was restored in 2018 on behalf of the new homeowner by the architect Guido Kummer and partners. On the ground floor and on the first floor there is a new tenant, the time-honored restaurant Du Bourg. The second and third floors, formerly used as living spaces, now house two rental apartments. In the attic, where formerly the offices were, another apartment was furnished, which can be rented today as a holiday apartment. The house is a lover object, which was repaired and revitalized by private hands, so to speak, as a contribution to the preservation of the old town.
renovation
The Altstadthaus du Bourg, which surrounds Burgplatz together with other houses from the same epoch, was originally built in the 16th century. Century built. In 1720, the house was increased and provided with a Baroque facade corresponding to the former style. To this day, the Baroque façade of the stately corner building with a broken part roof is very well preserved. Structures in Hauterive stone such as pilaster strips, cornices and window framing bear witness to the times. In the gable field is a historic lift door from the Middle Ages, flanked by two ox eyes. The front door dates from around 1840.
The high-quality old town house has a high architectural quality, which makes the history of construction clearly visible, although not always in the correct historical context. Although the restoration of the original structure was heavily prioritized. Since the attic had previously been only sparsely expanded, this had to be partially rebuilt with considerable intervention. Missing elements were added from the heritage preservation stocks. So there is a mighty tower stove in the attic, which was formerly in the Lorraineschulhaus in Bern. The grille in front of the gable window is a historical heirloom that has been carefully selected and installed. Even the floors of clay tiles come from the monument exchange.
IMPORTANT SUPPLEMENT
The Du Bourg is a monument that has been renovated with great respect for the existing substance. The tenant is aware of this and meets the object with care. Although technically state-of-the-art, certain functional details do not conform to current standards and harbor a potential source of danger. These circumstances are known to the renter. The owner, e-domizil and the foundation Ferien im Baudenkmal disclaim all liability.
