Cozy creekside cabin near Big Powderhorn's Lift #1 & Recreational Trail #2!!

Find winter fun and relaxation at our Northwoods getaway! Located just North of US Hwy 2 between Ironwood and Bessemer in Big Snow Country of Michigan’s Western Upper Peninsula, Waldhein is the red chalet with sand and slate-colored trim at the corner of Creekside Trail and Powderhorn Road. Conveniently located on your way to the main lodge of Big Powderhorn Mountain Resort, our pull-thru driveway accesses both roads, so parking is ample for multiple vehicles. No need to turn trailers around, just pull right on through!

We’re minutes from Blackjack and Indianhead Mountain for boarding and downhill skiing variety.

For your Big Powderhorn Mountain experiences, you can WALK up Powderhorn Road to Lift #1 (about 1200 ft), drive, or you can take the shuttle during snow season to the Gun Barrel Lodge or any of the other bars/restaurants in the Mountain area.

You have ride in/ride out access (leave your trailers in our driveway) to SNOWMOBILE & ATV TRAIL # 2.

Cross-country skiers can pole across the road for local Nordic trails and are in close proximity to the 26 Km Wolverine Nordic Cross Country Ski & Mountain Bike Trails.

Waldhein is a two-level chalet with front decks on the main and upper levels. The lower front deck with charcoal grill on the main level (except during snow season).

It has three private bedrooms (1 Queen on the main level, 2 Full-size bedroom on the upper level) and a lofted space with 2 Twin-sized beds. There is a bathroom available on each level (shower/tub combo on the main level, shower on upper level). The main level has a living room space, dining table and card table nook, all with a view of the central wood-burning fireplace! The kitchen is fully-stocked with anything you might need during your stay, including coffee and an assortment of teas and honey. Linens and most bath necessities are provided. You can enjoy free WiFi in the cozy atmosphere, with a woodburning fireplace that is perfect for cold winter nights.

Was a great building unfortunately big powerhorn closed early so we were unable make use of thr proximity but Sean gave us some great alternative options and we were still able to have a great time.

Perfect winter getaway in the UP
Thanks for an amazing place to stay. The house is so cozy, comfortable, and the perfect place for our winter weekend. We skied at big Powederhorn and Snow River, so the location was perfect. We also snow shoed the Wolverine Nordic trails, which were just down the road. Thanks for being an excellent host and being dog friendly! We can't wait to come back!!!

Ski Weekend
The house was just right for our group. It is moments away from Powderhorn and exactly as described in the listing. The fireplace was perfect after a day of skiing and the cards and games kept us all engaged. Thanks for sharing this cottage w us!

Great stay, but those with allergies be cautious
This is a well maintained, cozy spot. Perfect for our long weekend. The manager was very friendly and left out some nice treats. Only downside was as a person with allergies and it being a pet friendly place I did have some allergy symptoms flare up. It was manageable for me, but could be a problem for others with more serious pet allergies.

Perfect chalet
The house was just perfect. Very clean and welcoming as soon as we walked into the door. Plenty of firewood already in place for us to use. The house was warm and felt just like home. I couldn't ask for any better communication with the owners too. It was the perfect get away and if we decide to visit the area again we will try to rent this home once more. Everything was just perfect for our family get away.

Cozy Chalet - Great Location
We had a wonderful time at the Waldhein. Warm, cozy and had everything we needed for our stay. Great location and parking for our family of skiers & snowmobilers. Lots of hooks to hang our gear after a day on the slopes/trails. We had plenty of firewood and loved the fireplace. The beds were comfortable with plenty of clean bedding. We always had hot water with great water pressure and lots of towels. Great communication, exactly as pictured, many nice touches that made our stay very comfortable. So nice that we could bring our dog, he loved it!

The only fly in the ointment was the refrigerator was full on arrival and hadn't been cleaned. Other than that bad first impression, the property was as advertised and loved the location! Overall, would definitely recommend.

Fun Weekend Getaway
We had a great time! It was nice to be so close to Big Powderhorn. We still ended up driving to the lodge to buy lift tickets/rent gear, but had no issues with parking. Convenient location. The driveway was a bit icy but we had no issues with our vehicles. Make sure you have the key code saved on your phone ahead of time because you will not have cell service when you arrive!

Waldhein Family Time
Great time at your cabin. Really appreciated how you prepared it for us. Ample plus firewood and even fire starter logs. Can’t say enough about how easy and fun you made this experience. Very close to Powderhorn although we skied at Indianhead as Powderhorn not as open as Indianhead. Still only a 25 minute drive to Indianhead.

Great Location for Exploring with ORV
This was our first time visiting Michigan and riding on the ORV trails. The hosts were very informative and quick to respond with information about the Chalet as well as places nearby that would help us truly experience this area. We were able to check many of the suggestions off our list of things to do but there were a few that we simply ran out of time to explore during the week. The Chalet is in a great location for getting on the ORV trails without the need to trailer them and the pass-through driveway is very handy for parking the trailer. Plenty of towels were provided and the kitchen was stocked with necessities and a bowl filled with a variety of snacks that came in handy throughout the week. Bathrooms with showers on each level were a wonderful aspect that not many places to stay seem to have. Checking in and out was very simple and much appreciated.

Waldhein Chalet = Winter Fun Base Camp
Waldhein Chalet was a five star experience! We used this property as our skiing base camp over New Years. The owners provide a comfy, cozy, dog friendly chalet in the Big Powderhorn Mountain alpine village. We liked the sleeping capacity in an affordable package with plenty of spare towels and blankets to go around. The pantry, kitchen and bathrooms were well stocked. The property is maintained and clean. To be sure…this is a ski chalet. Be prepared for rustic furnishings, quilted bedspreads, and ski bum decor. This was part of the charm for us, but some folks may not get the character if they don’t know what they are getting into. For us it was a memorable stay that we will consider in the future if we head back to Gogebic County, MI.

We were unable to get the TV to work. We were able to watch DVD's. Two remotes for the downstairs tv with no instructions. Suggest laminated instructions on the operation of the TV.

CHARMING COTTAGE, AMAZING HOSTS!
This was our 3rd visit to Waldhein & we can't say enough good things about this property & our wonderful hosts, Sean & Kerry. They always go above and beyond to make sure we are well taken care of & their communication is outstanding. They are quick to respond, whether it's about renting, or if an issue pops up during a visit. The location of Waldhein is perfect for us. It's a very quick drive up the Black River Road for many hiking opportunities to view waterfalls or to hang out on the Lake Superior beach & do a little rock hunting or stargazing. Ironwood & Bessemer are less than a 10 minute drive from this delightful getaway. There are more things to do within a 30 minute drive than you could ever get to in a two week vacation! If you ski, Powderhorn is a few minutes up the road; Blackjack and Indianhead ski resorts are less than 20 minutes away. Housekeeping is excellent, and everything you could need for an extended stay is provided. Kerry & Sean are wonderful, flexible hosts who are opening up their vacation home and really want you to have an outstanding experience! We can't wait to return!💖
