An easy stone's-throw from the ocean, the sound of the waves on the stony beach was a wonderful constant background. It is a one-room cabin but with space enough -- a comfy queen bed, a real kitchen, and a sitting area that works for dining for two. A micro-wave, a sturdy toaster oven, a two-burner Coleman camp stove, and a large propane grill allow for real cooking. The outdoor shower with on-demand hot water was a delight, especially after swimming in the cold ocean. Mosquitoes were a problem, but the owner sprayed, which helped. The deep water dock was great, but note that the float was not in the water this year, so check whether it will be in for your stay. Being a one-room cabin with screen walls, privacy can be scarce with other folks occasionally walking down the huge lawn to the beach, but we found everyone to be very considerate. All in all, we can't remember ever having a better time renting on Mount Desert Island.
