Howler Monkey was an interesting little place. Family run and in a fairly remote location so we saw enormous, 5 ft. orange iguanas along the river (take binoculars to see them better) and heard the howlers in the area. However, the place could use some work - cleaning, painting, general maintenance, etc. And it is not a 'resort' by most American's description. Our particular cabin was fine but also needed a little TLC. It was 2 doubles with a bathroom door that hit the one bed. And we had a pad lock to use on the door from the inside when there, and then from the outside when leaving. Rustic is a good description and trust me, it's not for everyone. We had an excellent dinner prepared by the family - you do not choose your meal, it is whatever is getting prepared that day. Our meal had plenty of grilled chicken and 2 local vegetarian sides plus dessert. Excellent home cooking. But not resort food. Another couple we met didn't have as good of an experience the night before with a poached meat, potatoes & broccoli. They said ours looked far better. Luck of the draw I guess. Finally, take a book or plan to play a game in the evening. Wireless is only in the common area and is spotty. And unless you want to drive a 1/2 hour to the nearest town, there is nothing to do. You are in a remote area and it's dark. So if you like rustic (thus affordable) accommodations, a chance to see some great wildlife, are an adventurous eater and enjoy some downtime - this is for you!
