Summary:
Cozy and romantic… Newly re-created from long-neglected space in the historic Sheffield building. A perfect getaway for two, the loft is located above the area’s hottest new restaurant, the Houndstooth. Stylish and artsy with classic urban finishes - high ceilings, exposed brick, hardwood floors...and a walk-out balcony overlooking the city’s skyline. Houndstooth has quickly become a neighborhood magnet. You won’t want to miss it.
The Space:
1 Bedroom, 1 bath, 600sf., located on the second floor above the Houndstooth Restaurant. Muffled sounds of music and activity from the restaurant below are often present in the loft during evening hours. While rare, some guests may find this objectionable.
A walk-out balcony overlooks the parking lot below with the western city skyline in the distance. Classic loft finishes - hardwood floors, exposed brick and ductwork, high ceilings. Full laundry is shared with an adjacent loft. Located on the 2nd floor, the loft makes a great place from which to explore surrounding destinations. Lake Michigan is a short drive, downtown St. Joseph is a 5-minute drive across the St. Joe River, and the Golf Club at Harbor Shores is just around the corner.
You will park at the rear of the building in a private surface lot. A parking “fob” will be furnished to access the lot.
The 600sf loft features an open kitchen/living room, bathroom, and bedroom. Fully furnished with everything you need to enjoy Southwest Michigan!
Guest Access:
Guests enjoy the entire loft apartment. The laundry room is shared with one adjacent loft. This is a walk-up apartment and does not have an elevator.
The Neighborhood:
The Arts District is a walkable Renaissance neighborhood that has evolved slowly over a span of nearly twenty years. A bit edgy...perhaps mysterious. We’re home to the Mason Jar Cafe, Verde Juice Box, Forte Coffee, the Livery Brew Pub, and Water Street Glassworks, as well as several studios and galleries. The District is a work in progress - you’ll notice vacant buildings along with those in various stages of renovation. First-time visitors may find the area on the quiet side, but the future of the neighborhood is exciting and continues to attract creative pioneers and investors who add to the historic urban vibe. Your visit helps build our story!
We’re just one mile from Whirlpool’s Riverview Campus and right around the corner from the Golf Club at Harbor Shores, home of the Senior PGA. The sandy beaches of Jean Klock Park along Lake Michigan are a short drive away and offer beachgoers the most expansive sandy beach in the area. St. Joseph is just across the river, offering additional dining and shopping destinations.
Getting Around:
The Arts District is roughly 5 square blocks - easy to explore on foot. St. Joe, Lake Michigan, and other attractions can be reached in 5-10 minutes by car. Other towns worth exploring within a short drive include Three Oaks and New Buffalo to the south, and South Haven and Saugatuck to the north.
Other Things to Note:
Please respect out quiet hours from 10pm to 7am.
The loft is one of four apartments located directly above The Houndstooth, a ‘New American’ bistro that opened in September 2019 to rave reviews. Founded by executive chefs James and Cheyenne Galbraith, the Houndstooth brings farm-fresh, artisan dining to your getaway experience. Shared plates, full entrees, fine wine, and craft cocktails are also available for take-out Tues-Sat. A romantic patio added in 2020 allows for “alfresco” dining during the warmer months - reservations are strongly recommended!
