It was clean and tidy, with good dining, lounge and kitchen available. Also Ange is a nice friendly hostess.

Clean and comfy, unfortunately there was no restaurant as stated online, no one knew about our booking, no code for the front door, and WiFi didn’t work.
A very clean tidy lodge in a remote location. Had all the basics that you need for a budget stay

No one there when I arrived no instructions no wifi as was advertising stated no food available there or in the area after 5pm contrary to what advertising and the manager said when I spoke to her I had to drive 30 minutes back to Te Kuiti to get dinner cafe didn’t open the next morning so I had to find someone to pay before I left ( I had been given that option when I booked) she also tried to charge $ 5 more then advertising

For the price, a comfortable place to stay, with friendly staff (this is NZ, remember!).
Think of it like a youth hostel, just with private rooms.
The rooms and bathroom are a bit run down, so if you're expecting something really slick, be warned!
But there's a kitchen with fridges etc, not something you'd get in a hotel.
I would stay here again, but partly because there's not really anywhere else in this price range near the forest I wanted to visit!
This was an impromptu stay as were currently hiking through New Zealand. We booked a room, and wanted to check in a day earlier - this was not a problem. Check in was simple and our host very helpful.
My first impressions were very clean, new carpets and comfortable room. Really felt it was value for money and offers an ideal location for the timber trail.
The room had everything we required and showers had shower gel for us also. Ideal base
I was most disappointed with this lodge. I booked a double room, but the one they gave me was far too small to be called a double. The cafe closed at about 3:00 pm (I'm not sure of the exact time) which is a problem because there is nowhere else in Benneydale to eat. They did offer steak and chips for dinner (no other choices) so vegetarians go hungry. To be fair, they did make me a sandwich instead. Breakfast was really not good enough. A bowl of cereal and two slices of bread which I could toast myself in a crummy old kitchen. Instant coffee in a cracked mug! I do not recommend this place.
