The Inn canceled my reservation
Drove 6 hours to the hotel and found out my reservation didn't go through. Regarding the cancellation, never received a call or any communication other than a confirmation.
This is a nice place to stay. Check in wasn't that difficult as in previous reviews. You just turn left at first stop sign and there is a building with a huge sign that says CHECK IN. Room was clean, beds were comfy. Yes, there is NOT alot of parking spaces, so if you get one, don't leave because it may not be there when you come back! They also have an outdoor pool which is tiny, but better than nothing I guess. We stayed here and went to Traverse City, a little bit of a hike and through winding roads. I thought it was closer so would have stayed at a closer hotel.
The room has some rustic furniture but the beds were comfortable and the room was clean. One of the best showers...great pressure and good water! It was nice to sit out on the porch and listen to the water fountain in the pond. If you wanted to eat.....places were nearby in the Shanty Creek complex. You do need to know that the check-in was up the hill nearer to the Lakeview Hotel. But that wasn't a problem since we got there around 3pm and someone was at the real estate place where we checked in. I understand it's at the store or such that is right near there, after 6pm. Signage could have been better as to where the Legend Cottages were...from the highway. We had no idea it was in the Shanty Creek complex. But once we found it.....things were great and it was nice to be out farther away from the highway and towns. Although the town of Bellaire is not to far from Shanty Creek. Nice quaint town. We would definitely stay at the Legend Cottages again.
Clean, decent room. Shades were not adequate for morning Sun. Good deal if u include golf.

Bad checkin experience
Check in takes place half a mile up the hill at the Vacation Club Center, not at the hotel itself. If you want to check in after hours (6:00 PM), the vacation club will be closed and you need to find your key in their after hours box. None of this information was made available to us until we called the phone number on our confirmation email.
When you pull into the parking lot for the welcome center, the exterior wall of the building will have two sets of french doors. Between those french doors is a welcome sign with pink trim. The welcome sign is hinged and opens like a medicine cabinet. Envelopes containing maps and room keys can be found there. It's all on the honor system, so you'd better hope nobody stole your room key.
relaxing and comfortable - room smelled very freshly cleaned when we first entered- the pool was relaxing- you could grill out if you wished, especially the fresh fish you might of caught in one of many nearby lakes.

Reasonable price and good location.
Compared to the other hotels in the area this one was very reasonably priced. The rooms were large and comfortable without being luxurious in any way. The pool was nice. We didn't interact with the staff much since the check-in center is in another building about a quarter of a mile away.
Pulling into the area I had high hopes for our room. Unfortunately those were destroyed when we walked in. Room was bare at best, the toilet leaked from the base and there weren't enough parking spots.
We stayed two nights ... pleased with the room - very clean, pretty new, roomy, small refrig/microwave, beautiful golf community. We were visiting friends in the area and were just looking for a reasonably priced highly rated location - we were not disappointed. A couple wonderful golf courses in the development ... made me wish I had brought my clubs. Nice staff at check-in/out. We had a nice dinner on-site (2 block walk) at the Lake View restaurant ... wonderful view of the Lake Michigan, nice menu with reasonable pricing. Recommend this resort room ... great location close to Travis City and the other great small historical towns along the Michigan shoreline in the area.
Nice, clean room. Beautiful area. I would recommend this hotel.

Nice hotel/terrible check in/out process
I was not given enough information regarding checking in and checking out. Specifically, I did not know the following:
1. The check in office was located across the road and down the street.
2. The check in office closed at 6 PM.
3. If you do not check in prior to the office closing, your key is hidden outside of the office.
4. The office did not open on the date I checked out until 10 am. I needed to leave at 9:30.
I drove around and finally found someone who could tell me how to check in and where to find the keys to my room. I attempted to call the hotel and only got a voicemail to leave a message. I left a message and as of today have still not received a return call.
This property was beautiful and close to Torch lake which was our Michigan destination. The only difficulty was locating the key for after hours check in. This is a gold resort and we would definitely return for another vacation up north. It was nice to go walking around as well. The grounds are beautifully maintained and it was very quiet as well.
This hotel is part of a vacation club, thus SEPERATE from the actual shanty creek golf resort. I had called in advance to schedule late check in, as I was planning on attending a wedding shower in bachelorette party in traverse city. The roads to navigate late at night through the shanty creek resort were horrendous, and the directions to where my keys were being held were not very clear either. Thank god for the security staff at the main shanty creek lodge who navigated me to the box at the check in center, and then to my lodge and room.
The free breakfast promised to me and the other guests staying in my room was not acknowledged. They did not provide me with food vouchers. No one was at the check in center the next morning, nor did anyone respond EVER to my messages left.
The room itself was fine, but expect nothing from the absent vacation club staff, and be prepared to rely on the mercy of the shanty creek resort staff to help you out.
Next time I will be booking a room at the main shanty creek resort, they are a lot more helpful.
Great area, not as crowded, wonderful amenities, makes for a very pleasant stay with great value. Very accessible to other cities in the region.

Alright
We stayed July 24 as we have family in Bellaire. The Legend Cottage Inn was a clean place to sleep and watch television. The pool is outdoors. We usually stay at Shanty Creek which is alright too but costs about $* more per night. Shanty Creek has an indoor pool and hottub but that, to us is not worth the additional $* per night. One thing I didn't like is that there was no internet service.

Just alright
A couple of times per year, we go to Bellaire to visit family. There aren't many relatively inexpensive places to stay in Bellaire. Legend Cottage Inn was alright. It was clean and I saved $* per night by staying there. There is no internet = not good. There is only an outdoor pool but in my opinion, a pool is not worth $* per night. There was no in-rrom information about the area. When we were leaving, we saw a sign for one of the nearby golf courses who had a fair priced breakfast buffet. We went to it and it was very good. All in all, though, we would stay there again due to the price.
The hotel was well kept and maintained, clean and comfortable. This hotel is part of a large resort that includes golfing and skiing. There are also condos and residences nearby. One thing that makes this hotel different from most is that the check in location for the room is in a "welcome center" about 1/4 mile away from the room. The welcome center also doubles as the real estate office for the resort (they are selling land to build on), but no sales pitch for land was given to us during our stay. This hotel is about 30 minutes from Traverse City and 45 minutes from Petoskey.
