An unusual hotel in the old part of town.
Difficult to tell if it is called The Hotel Portas da Amazonas or Acorte. Situated next to the cathedral and near the fort. Within walking distance of Docas (markets water trips and eating) but out of the main city. We were told to take extreme care if out walking at night. Breakfast finished at 9. The first morning we arrived at 8.45 and all the hot food had gone but scrambled egg eventually turned up. Arrived at 8 the next morning and cooked food arrived at 8.45 and this was a Monday. The rooms were strange but ok. Nice outside sitting area outside upstairs. 2 lights in room did not work and some maintenance and repairs required about the place. THe A corte restaurant was good and pleasant in the evening.

Bells
Next to the cathedral and bells are loud and the clock chimes both hours and quarters all through the night.Air conditioning very inefficient. No hot water and no plug for the sink. Very noisy area but safe and close to the market and river. But generally a appeared run down and breakfasts were not exciting.

Great location, but that's about it.
If you have high standards for cleanliness, steer clear from this hotel. Old colonial house refurbished into a hotel, but needs a lot more work justhan to reachieve averge level. Location is perfect! Price is just fair. Ah, the church bells didn't bother me but they are loud, mainly on rooms 1 and 2, facing the square.

Small hotel near the Ver-o-Peso market in Belem
This is a reasonably priced small hotel in the old part of Belem. If you're looking for a luxurious stay, this is not the place. The hotel is in a large old building that has been restored. No elevators. Beds are OK. We stayed here twice in 2 different rooms, both of them large with high ceilings (nice in this heat!). There are some interesting wood artifacts placed in various spots. Hotel staff is wonderful and helpful and always pleasant, even when we had to leave at 2 a.m. to catch our plane. Breakfast is included, it's simple but adequate. Do try some of the exotic juices, usually served unsweetened. Sugar and sweetener are on the table.

Excellent location, amazing pizza restaurant
The hotel located in a nice area in the downtown of Belem. The stay was pleasant, we were upgraded to a deluxe room, which was huge with the view of the church. It is a historical boutique hotel so don't expect amazing quality and service as you get in huge brands, however the property is reasonably nice, service was OK, anything we needed we got, comfortable beds, poor bathroom amenities, breakfast OK, not great. However during evening hours I do recommend to dine in the hotel restaurant downstairs. The pizza there and capirinhia there is just amazing. We had dinner twice there as it was so good! Staff was pleasant and helpful.

A little gem in Belem
This hotel is in the perfect location to walk to most of the sights of Belem. The breakfast was really great and set you right up for the day. The rooms are really varied but the one we got had lots of lovely character (and was the reason we chose this hotel). The only disappointment was that the staff seemed to know nothing about Belem. They couldn't help us with what to do or see or where to go out for dinner - but thankfully the hotel has pretty good free wifi so we were able to google all this ourselves. I would definitely come back to stay here again (if you're booking here try and ask for room 1 or 2 [these are the best]- but be aware that the cathedral bells right across the street are pretty loud!). The mini-bar is well stocked and the prices are really reasonable, the shower was great, the bed was super comfortable, we didn't watch much TV but there is a nice big TV in the room of you want.

Convenient hotel next to church
The hotel receptionist for the night shift was very helpful and kind also because he was English-speaking. And ringings from the church were not so disturbing, unlike the other review. At least, the ring was fairly quiet between midnight and 6 a.m.

Lots of character - great stay
We had 3 rooms at this hotel and really liked it. It's old, so don't expect it to be in perfect condition, but I loved it. The building is beautiful and the beds were clean. AC worked great. There is a church right across the street and you will hear the bells every 15-30 minutes. And it can be loud. It didn't bother me at all, but another couple with a baby did not appreciate it as much. If you're a very light sleeper, this might not be the best option. Or you could use earplugs. There were two guys at the reception, both very helpful and friendly. Michael spoke pretty good english and was there to receive us at 3am when we checked in. I would go back!

Enfim, ficaria novamente no hotel.
