The Old Piggery, countryside accessible cottage

The Old Piggery is a recently renovated barn conversation that is both family friendly in the countryside and also accessibility friendly. In the heart of the countryside in Devon, The Old Piggery, sleeps 6 with a downstairs bedroom and en-suite with step free access and private garden and patio with views overlooking the luscious green fields across the valley.

The spacious open plan kitchen, dining room and living room is blessed with high ceilings and large windows letting in plenty of light. The log burner in the living room and multiple radiators throughout the property warm each room creating a cosy setting for the whole family to enjoy the countryside retreat. The living room has comfortable seating for 6 with two sofas and a chair facing the mounted TV and large patio windows so you can enjoy both countryside views in the day and a family movie in the evening.

The patio doors in the living room open to the patio garden with outdoor furniture and a lovely flower bed that overlooks the countryside valley. The astroturf garden around the side of the property is home to spacious garden furniture surrounded by wooden fencing to provide you with some privacy.

The ground floor bedroom is fully accessible with step free access from the kitchen through to the bedroom and ensuite. A king sized bed in the middle of the room is surrounded by two bedside tables, a corner chair and a wardrobe and draws for clothes storage. The unsuite is well finished to provide accessible features if required that can be pulled down for use or up to be hidden when not required. The shower has a shower seat and two shower heads for preference to be selected when in use. Safety pull cords are included in the bathroom which when pulled will sound the alarm in the kitchen as well as turn on the light above the bedroom doorway.

The kitchen is well lit thanks to the large windows on the back wall and the built in ceiling lights. With plenty of cupboard space and surface space you will be able to cook up a masterpiece on the electric oven and hob. The kitchen also has a microwave, kettle, toaster, dish washer, free standing fridge freezer and a caffeinator.

The staircase leading to the 1st floor is carpet with handles on the left to support you as you climb to the next level of the property. On your right at the top of the stairs you will find the family bathroom which has a velux window, w/c, touch sensitive mirror lights above the sink which is adjacent to the shower with 2 shower head attachments.

The twin room on the 1st floor has 2 full sized single beds each with their own bedside table, the velux window lets plenty of light into the spacious upstairs room. The clothes storage includes a wooden wardrobe and draws. There is a door connecting the twin room to the master bedroom.

The master bedroom has a king size double bed with a double window letting in ample light, the room has 2 bedside tables and a wardrobe draw container for clothes storage. There is a small sofa in the master bedroom.

Please note the property has parking for 2 cars at the front of the property, bedding & towels included. A highchair, cot and stair bed available upon request. The property is dog friendly. Facilities and equipment include dishwasher, oven, microwave, fridge freezer, kettle, toaster, log burner, fully accessible, ramp for garden access, garden furniture, rain showers, centralised heating and thermostat control panels. A lovely accessible cottage
We really enjoyed our stay at the old Piggery. The hosts were really helpful, lending us extra chairs for a BBQ and made us feel very welcome. The cottage was spotless and had everything you would need including coal and firelighters for the BBQ. On arrival we were given the nicest cream tea I have ever had. The ground floor bedroom is accessible without steps and has a step free shower in it's ensuite. It is in a beautiful rural location. We would definately recommend the property.

Amazing stay.
Our stay here was fantastic, it was like home from home. Every little detail thought of. Very comfy beds and sofas. Barney the dog was an added welcome with his morning hellos. We will definitely booking again. Thank you Sue and Tom

A nice break
Chosen more for availability - possibly would have chosen somewhere not as rural. A lovely place and nice break with the hosts being welcoming and helpful. Nice touch leaving a message and cream tea!

lovely cottage for a short stay
Lovely cottage, extremely clean, well equipped, ample room for 6 adults comfortably including garden furniture. Very pleasant stay. It is on the road with more traffic than expected but did not disturb at night. Although it is a dog friendly cottage, needed to drive for dog walks so went out everyday as did not find much suitable directly from the cottage.

Holiday
The Old Piggery was a lovely converted accessible cottage for our family holiday. We take a lot of equipment for our disabled teenage daughter, this worked well . A very lovely holiday apart from good old British weather.

A weekend away with family
We had another wonderful weekend away at The Piggery, this was our second visit. The facilities are great just what we need for all the family members, ie a ground floor bedroom with an ensuite wet room with hand rails etc and separate bedrooms and shower room upstairs. With such amazing weather being able to sit outside on the comfy garden chairs was an added bonus. Also the location is great in the countryside, but with Barnstaple quickly and easily accessible with plenty of choice of shops and supermarkets and then also having the beautiful Exmoor on your doorstep as well. We highly recommend this accommodation with the delicious homemade cream tea and milk to welcome you.

super comfortable rental with very good facilities for the disabled
We spent 3 nights at the cottage in September and had a delightful experience. Communication before the stay was very rapid and helpful and sorted out a few anxieties about accessibility. We brought along a family member with MND. He found it easy to get around the spacious and uncluttered downstairs easily. The wet room facilities were great although water temperature was not always very warm. Getting around the space was not a problem. It was lovely to have a calming view to look out on and to be in striking distance of some lovely coastal places, particularly Appledore and Saunterton. We cooked every evening and found a well equipped kitchen.

Fantastic stay at the Old Piggery
We booked the Old Piggery specifically for a family holiday for our disabled mum who has MS. Everything worked really well considering my mum has very poor mobility. Hosts were really friendly and very accommodating too. We would definitely return. Many thanks.

Lovely cottage
Beautiful well equipped and comfortable cottage adapted discreetly for wheelchair use. A little misleading regarding the washing machine as it is not in the cottage itself but available if required in a communal area attached to the owner’s house. Very helpful owners on site Well located to visit local attractions. We thoroughly enjoyed cycling the Tarka Trail. Thanks for a lovely stay

Good location for exploring North Devon
Good location and comfortable cottage. Could do with a bigger fridge. No washing machine in the property only access to owners washing machine.
