Amazing ski condo
The condo had everything we needed. Parking right in front, you could walk down to the slopes. A nice warm, cozy living room with a fireplace.

Fine place if you just want somewhere to stay while skiing or experiencing other things on the mountain. It was so cold that the exterior screen door froze shut and we could not get into the unit, however management was very timely to send maintenance in a short time to allow us access.

Disliked: Property conditions & facilities
It was okay. The steps down to our apt. were very steep...followed by more steep steps inside the apt. The carpet was clean but frayed. The dishwasher doesn't seem to work (there were several dishwasher tablets semi-dissolved in the bottom). We could not get the t.v. in the living room to work. BUT the bed was good.
We thought that we were booking through Vrbo, but was charged extra by Vacasa unknowingly. The ad claimed that the property was newly renovated, but it wasn't at all. Nothing was new, all doors were peeling carpet was very worn ,,walls we'rewalls w had un finished sheet rock patching appliances were out of date and dishwasher was out of order , no coffe filters fo coffee maker ,ii chose this condo because it said it was newly renovated witch wass vemucu not so , have pitchers to prove what i am saying peeling wood.

The best thing that I can say about this property is that owners apparently did some DIY improvements. The photos online are enticing but not exactly accurate.
Hemlock Nob condominiums are average, old, and has an HOA which Vacasa would not give us any contact info to take care of outside problems or emergencies.
We arrived about 4:30pm on our check-in date and found 6 inches to 1 foot of snow and ice on the 12 steps and front deck leading to the outside entrance door (which had 4 inch thick ice). It was very dangerous. The only Vacasa phone number given was not local!
I am 68 years old and my wife is 73. I would not let her go up the steps until I by myself shoveled off most of the snow and some ice with a snow shovel that was on the front deck next door. My wife called Vacasa while watching me shovel the steps and front deck as she talked with someone from Vacassa and the only thing they said was "We have contacted our local team to look into it". No one showed up until 4:30 pm the next day and sprinkled salt down but did not remove any ice. Three men did show up around 4:30 pm the day before our check-out date and shoveled some of the parking area but not the steps or front deck. We are very lucky that neither of us fell and did not suffer bodily injury. Vacasa and the HOA were very negligent and not helpful. The Vacasa Boone, NC office should have inspected the property before our arrival and made sure that the HOA had made the outside safe.

Not much. No wifi, the carpet runner in the hall had holes in it, the shower curtain has mold on it and lighting was very dim.

Subpar
Cute condo. Bottom floor. Has everything you need for a short stay. Slopes were fun. Difficult walk to sugar mountain thru ice covered multiple steps down hill that aren’t maintained. First time using vacasa and unfortunately won’t be using them again. Condo was NOT clean. Microwave with food inside on tray and outside. Dishes in dishwasher, bathroom sink dirty w hair. Beer bottle caps on floor. Remote didn’t work so we couldn’t change channels or watch tv. I did reach out to vacasa and sent pictures but they’re response was just sorry. I really think the owner should know that the cleaning people are not doing their job. I also would expect some sort of refund especially having a dirty unit and no tv. I wasn’t comfortable staying there wondering if the sheets had been changed. I left a note on the counter for the maid to be sure she knows what to work on. But super disappointed with vacasa and frustrated bc other rental options were available from resort. First and last time using vacasa.
There was no hot water. None of us got to take a proper shower. So unacceptable. II asked a Manager before we came if the fireplace worked and was told yes, it does not. The pull out bed mattresses has springs bulging out of it, very uncomfortable. My son ended up having to stay with other relatives. The condo itself is very worn . There was blood on the spare pillows. I was in contact with a an agent a Vacasa and have reached out to her three times via text and phone call to tell her about our experience. She has yet to respond. I have it in writing

Great location
Great location. Close to many activities. Nice outdoor deck with table and chairs. Quiet area. Adjacent to a beautiful park with good hiking trails. We went there for the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games. Suggestions for improvement: replace the broken coffee maker (had to hold the pot up the whole time to get it to activate the drip); Bathroom exhaust fan did not function; Windows were very dirty so beautiful forest view was obstructed; suggest replacing the carpet with vinyl or tile to get rid of the funky smell.

Amazing Location
This was such a quaint condo complex located super close to the slopes and all the attractions that Sugar Mountain and the surrounding banner elk have to offer! We loved our stay and will definitely be back!
Booked this condo for a weekend getaway with my wife. Once we got the key and got into the unit, we were initially pleased with the updates and decor we noted on the website. Once we started settling in, we noticed very little attention had been paid to areas outside of the kitchen sink / counters and the toilet and sink areas in the bathroom. When we walked into the bathroom, we found long strands of hair stuck to the shower wall and lots of mildew on the shower curtain. There was also dirt around the light switches and dust and hair on the baseboards. I sent a message through VRBO to Vacasa (mgt co) and also via email and still have not seen a response. After finding some cleaning supplies and new bulbs to replace the two that were burned out in the bathroom, we felt comfortable enough to settle in. The unit is decorated nicely and the updates are a great start to making this a nice place. Our plans to stay in vs eating out the whole weekend were quickly changed when we opened up the kitchen cabinets on night 2 to find mouse droppings throughout the lower cabinets. Again, sent pictures and message and still no response. Suggestion to property owner is to inspect the unit and find a new housekeeping company. So disappointed in what could be a great little getaway location. The one redeeming quality is its location and proximity to the slopes of Sugar Mountain Resort.
Enjoyed the property and ease of getting to the slopes
Wry enjoyable

Excellent Location, Dated Unit
We chose this location due to its proximity to the Sugar Mountain Ski Lodge. Although there is a walking path to the lodge, it’s not an easy or short one especially if you have ski gear, so we only did it once. The drive was just a few minutes so very convenient especially if one of us didn’t ski and could just drop the skiers off. Although the directions to the unit are confusing and consist of a lot of tight turns, it’s still a quick drive into the towns of Sugar Mnt & Banner Elk (they’re basically one town since they’re so close) where there are some nice restaurant choices and the grocery store. The unit itself is definitely tight for 4 people and is very dated. In its day, we’re sure it was amazing, but it’s time for some major renovations. Once you fold the couch out, you have the large coffee table to contend with in an already small space. We ended up just leaving the couch bed open the entire time and used the coffee table for overflow from the bathroom (makeup, etc) since there’s not much counter space in the bathroom. There also wasn’t a single washcloth for the bathroom and only 4 towels. Only 1 towel each might be an issue for other people, but was fine with us. The washing machine and dryer work really well. The carpets may just be stained from people tracking in snow, etc, and not necessarily dirty, but we were sure to keep our shoes on regardless because they looked really gross. At the very least they need new carpets or a deep cleaning. There are a lot of stairs leading into the unit and several of them are in a tight, narrow space so be aware if anyone in your group may have issues with this. Our communication to the management company leading up to the trip was excellent but was pretty much non-existent once we arrived. We informed them immediately that someone had left clothes in the dresser and that we found a ring under the couch with no response. Then the gas fireplace (which we LOVED on our first day) quit working on day 2 with no response either. Honestly, it wasn’t the end of the world but we were disappointed. We did finally hear from someone who apologized and said they were just so busy because of the Christmas holiday (we were there for a few days and checked out Xmas morning). The sliding glass door was almost impossible to open and wouldn’t lock. Overall the unit worked well for our family of 4 and the location was perfect, but if we go again we’d look for a more updated, slightly larger unit
Great location near Grandfather mountain and blue ridge parkway. Small condo with all amenities. Soaps, cleaner and even laundry detergent provided. Only downside was carpets were grossly stained so much that we wouldn’t walk without shoes on! Cobwebs in corners,
on door hinges and baseboard but easily cleaned with a disinfectant wipe.

Home for 5 months
The setting in the forest is calm and serene. This home is cozy and well equipped. Comfortable bed and pillows. Big TVs with smart TV attachments for those who enjoy television. Also, one of my favorite things was the owners on each side of this unit are wonderful and became good friends of mine.
