LOCATION
Hook Norton is one of the largest villages in the area, with its deep orange, iron stone buildings and wonderful location at the edge of the Cotswolds. It boasts three pubs - The Sun Inn, The Pear Tree and The Gate Hangs High - and benefits from a large, well-stocked village shop, butcher, hairdresser, doctor and dentist.
The village is also home to the award-winning Hook Norton brewery, where beer has been crafted for over 170 years. Approximately 15 minutes’ walk from Orchard Road, the brewery hosts many social events throughout the year, along with regular brewery tours and an open tap night every month. It has its own brewery shop - offering a large range of beers, wines and spirits - and also serves delicious breakfasts and lunches 7 days a week in its Malthouse Kitchen.
All three pubs in the village are open all day every day, and offer extensive food menus - The Sun and The Gate Hangs High both having separate restaurant areas. The village shop is well stocked with fresh fruit and vegetables, dairy products, newspapers, beers, wines & spirits. The village Post Office is also housed within the shop which is open till 8pm Monday to Saturday and 6pm on Sundays.
SURROUNDING AREA
Hook Norton lies just outside Chipping Norton - often described as the gateway to the Cotswolds and a bustling market town offering a broad range of shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants and its original open market on Wednesdays. The town also boasts its own theatre and is home to several annual festivals including the Chipping Norton Music Festival in March and internationally-renown Chipping Norton Literary Festival in April.
Other major events in the area include festivals at Cropredy, Blenheim, Cornbury, Wilderness and the Big Feastival near Kingham. The annual Cheltenham race festival takes place in March and is well within reach - as is the Cheltenham Literary Festival and a huge number of annual events in and around Oxford and Stratford-Upon-Avon.
The village also has its own museum based in the brewery building and is just a short distance away from the Rollright Stones - a collection of megalithic stone monuments comprising the Whispering Knights dolmen, the King's Men stone circle and the King's Stone - the earliest of which is over a thousand years older the Stonehenge.
