Historic Farmhouse Retreat w/ flower farm & chickens in Baltimore suburbs!

Step back in time and experience the charm & elegance of this meticulously restored 1910 colonial country home, now called Axios Farms! Nestled on a peaceful hilltop just 15 min north of Baltimore, this property boasts a rich history, having been owned by prominent figures such as Charles Carroll (signer of the Declaration of Independence), George Brown of Alex Brown & Sons (the first investment bankers in the U.S.), and Captain Isaac Emerson (inventor of Bromo-Seltzer). This stunning property sits on nearly 3 acres and features a flower farm and friendly hens giving you organic eggs all year!

The space
Originally named Derrymore by the family of George Brown (Irish immigrants and the first investment bankers in the U.S.), the house was built for the farm manager's family. It's location offers tranquility and seclusion in the Greenspring Valley Historic District, while being just a short drive from Towson and Baltimore (15 minutes due north of the Penn/Train Station and 20 minutes from the Inner Harbor and sport stadiums).

As you approach the home, you'll be greeted by an expansive front porch with peaceful views of the surrounding valley, perfect for enjoying your morning coffee and catching up with friends and family. Spectacular sunset views can be enjoyed from the back patio, firepit or tree swing overlooking the flower farm.

The interior of the home is a seamless blend of historic charm and modern luxury. Enter through the elegant two-story foyer, where a grand staircase beckons you to explore further. To the left, you'll find a comfortable living room adorned with a cozy fireplace, while to the right, a spacious dining room awaits, also featuring a fireplace stove. (Please note the fireplaces are not functioning but provide plenty of old-world ambiance!)

The upper level reveals four nicely sized bedrooms with nine-foot ceilings, each exuding its own unique character. One of the bedrooms, known as the bridal suite, features a service staircase keeping true to the historic nature of the home. For added convenience, there are 3 full bathrooms on this floor including a bathtub perfect for children. A pack-and-play with sheets is also provided in the bedroom with the rocking horse.

Back on the main floor, a beautifully decorated office space provides the perfect spot for remote work or a peaceful reading nook. Playing one of our vintage edition board games of Monopoly or Clue is sure to give your stay an authentic feel of historic Baltimore charm.

The heart of the home lies in its gourmet kitchen, which has been newly renovated and features modern amenities, ample storage, and a sunny breakfast area. A custom-made built-in butler's pantry connects the kitchen to the dining area, ensuring seamless entertaining experiences.

Our house offers 2 first-floor bedrooms in the attached in-law suite, complete with a separate private entrance. It is perfect for those travelling with guests who cannot use the stairs. This addition comprises a family room, full bathroom with shower, kitchenette, two bedrooms and a sitting area with a smart TV, providing flexibility for guests and multigenerational living. We have had guests stay with us who were in wheel chairs and they had a great experience!

Axios Farms has been modernized for your comfort including central air and heat provided by a newly installed geothermal HVAC system. In this way, the house is cooled and heated with the help of the natural temperatures underground. Between the fresh eggs laid by our hens and the beautiful flower garden (peak bloom between June and September) you will sure feel back to nature in this country retreat.

Your group’s experience will be further enhanced with the use of the game barn (blue detached building) which features a billiards/pool table, ping pong, foosball, cornhole and a smart TV. It’s the perfect place to hang out on a nice evening to watch a game or play a game. Please note the game barn is not fully climate-controlled, yet is enjoyable much of the year without the need of the provided fan and baseboard heaters.

There is ample parking on the property. While a 3-car garage is below the in-law suite, it is not available for guest parking as it is used for farming operations and storage. Guests can park in the driveway, roundabout circle or even on the grass field just below the flower farm if needed.

Axios Farms offers a truly unique and captivating living experience, where history and modernity converge in perfect harmony. Embrace the opportunity to call this piece of history your own and immerse yourself in the story of the Green Spring Valley Historic district. Additional information and photos can be found on Axios Farms' webpage. Book your stay at Axios Farms today!

Guest access
You will have full access to the house, patio, game barn and lawn immediately surrounding house. Guests may tour the flower farm but are asked to not pick flowers and must keep the gate closed at all times. Guests are encouraged to visit the chicken coop (they love visitors) but may not enter the fenced area.

Other things to note
Enjoy the convenience of staying near Towson, Johns Hopkins and other great hospitals and universities, as well as many parts of Baltimore County that feature wonderful shopping and restaurants. This is a unique country setting just outside of the Baltimore City area in the suburbs of Baltimore County.

It’s a great option for small company retreats, a central hub for families in town for a wedding, visitors to Preakness, the Maryland Cycling Classic or other sporting events such as the Baltimore Orioles or Ravens.

PLEASE NOTE: for private retreats and other small private gatherings, which are outside of typical terms (i.e. more than 12 guests for this house), please contact Axios Farms prior to booking. The house can sleep up to 12 guests. Please contact Axios Farms directly for day rentals and discounted hourly photo shoots. More information is on our webpage.

Great Place, has everything you need for a relaxing stay. Fresh eggs, cold drinks in the fridge. Multiple seating areas in addition to all the bedrooms and baths. Game room is a wonderful bonus. We will plan our next visit to the area around the Farmhouse availability.

Work Retreat
We had a fabulous group work meeting in this space. Michael moved the monitor so that we could use the dining room table as a conference room table. The small room upstairs served as a second meeting space. We came from all over the country to meet. It was a fun, collaborative space to be together. Thank you!

Awesome Time in an Awesome Place with my Favorite People
This property exceeded my best expectations. It is perfectly appointed both functionally and aesthetically. The decor is enviably beautiful as well as very clean and very organized. Every room was gorgeous with every amenity you could possibly need. Lovely blinds cover the large tall windows and let in a delightful flood of sunshine when you open them in the morning. The kitchen was stocked with all kinds of goodies to eat and when we needed to press our clothes there was an iron and ironing board ready and set up for us to use. We had to be out by 7:00am for graduation but that was not a problem with over 4 bathrooms for everyone to use. My husband and I stayed downstairs with my sister in the in-law suite section of the house while our young adult children and friends stayed upstairs. The game room in the barn was a huge surprise. Our kids had an amazing time playing all kinds of games in it. This place is a dream and we’re so glad we had a chance to live in it for a short little while. On top of it all the owners are wonderful and generous; they communicated all the necessary details to us precisely and quickly. We and our kids are already talking about our return trip. Truly a heavenly time in a heavenly place!!

Suprise 80th birthday for mother!
My six siblings , my dad and I coordinated a sweet surprise party for my mom's upcoming 80th birthday. We flew in from all over the country and meet up at Axios Farms for the most memorable celebration we could ask for. The house was beautiful, clean, well decorated, well supplied and incredibly comfortable. There were plenty of bedrooms with comfortable beds and lots of places to sit around and talk. Everything is newly remodeled and in perfect shape! We spent much time at the huge dining room table sharing meals and the kitchen was spacious and easy to use. A few of my siblings took advantage of the game room and we all admired the chickens. The property is huge and there is green all around! For an AZ resident, that made the place extra inviting. It was a wonderful stay and we did not want to leave. The owner Michael was so helpful and responsive throughout our visit, even taking time to snap our family photo when he came by to care for the chickens. I highly recommend Axios Farms.
