Luxurious privacy in the vibrant genuinely Spanish atmosphere of Isla Canela!
Magnificently located Villa with private pool in a truly privileged location right by the beach. The property has sea views from all floors: downstairs lounge and upstairs terraces have sea views, with a breathtaking coastal panorama from the rooftop terrace. The Portuguese coast - The Algarve - can be seen in the distance. Beach bars with tapas and live music are a short walk away.
Restaurants/cafes are 2mins walk, a supermarket and mini-market are close (5 mins walk).
Beach promenade with cycle path is lined with joyful eateries - many open in winter too.
Ayamonte is a very pretty fishing port, with marina and small ferry to Portugal and the Algarve . Located on the Spanish/Portuguese border it is lined with street cafes, restaurants, tapas bars and nice boutiques/shops and has two large Plazas for fiestas and great evening atmosphere. The freshly caught fish and seafood in the restaurants is a big draw to Spaniards from Sevilla, Cordoba, Badajoz, Madrid and even from the north of Spain. Other nearby places of interest are Huelva, from where Columbus first sailed to the New World; El Rocio, famous for the annual pilgrimage and Andalusian capital, Seville, home of tapas, flamenco, Moorish architecture and so much more. The eastern end of the Portuguese Algarve is also worth a day trip or two; it is a largely unspoilt region with long sandy beaches, small fishing villages and attractive national parks easily accessible from Isla Canela. The historic town of Tavira is also worth a trip - only 40 mins drive away it too has a lovely square next to the river with a hilltop castle/gardens.
Beaches and Activities: The beach is very safe and ideal for children and water sports, with a sandbank out to sea where “almejas” (mussels) can be fished with your feet!. The beaches are highly prized by Spaniards, but still little known to foreigners. The area is ideal for sailing, windsurfing and kite surfing. If you do not want to try it yourself, you can just relax on the beach and enjoy the skilful gymnastics of the kitesurfers and windsurfers. There are marinas at Isla Canela, Ayamonte and Isla Cristina where sailors of all abilities can hire boats to enjoy the Atlantic Coastline.
For younger family members, on the road into Cartaya (approx 30 mins) there is the Kartodromo de Cartaya (Karting) open year round, and the very popular Aquopolis water park.
Cycling in and around Isla Canela is great for the whole family. There are cycle paths with no cars along the side of the beach, tracks into Ayamonte and a disused railway line.
Golf and Kite Surfing: Five excellent golf courses nearby: Isla Canela Golf, Costa Esuri Golf, Monte Rei, Castro Marim and Islantilla Golf Courses, winter home of the Swedish & Danish Golf Unions. Facilities include Driving Ranges, Putting & Chipping Greens, Practice Bunkers, Resident Golf Pros. Isla Canela also has 2 international standard bowling greens, tennis courts & football training areas. Other nearby golf courses are: El Rompido, Nuevo Portil and, just across the border in the eastern Algarve: Quinta de Cima and Quinta da Ria.
For the keen golfer the Costa de la Luz, Huelva and the Eastern Algarve are as yet 'undiscovered' when compared to the western Algarve and Costa del Sol. Green fees are lower and the courses less crowded, making it much easier to get a start time. They are also some of best courses in all of Spain.
The beach is very highly rated by kite-surfers and there are good instructors. Part of the beach is reserved for kite-surfers/ sailors in summer.
