When I arrived I was told that even though I had a reservation on Expedia I could not stay there because they were not authorized to host foreigners. Their sollution was for me to call the hotel company and fix it, or call Expedia. I only had a data eSIM card. Eventually they sent me walking blindly through a horribly polluted and dirty alley to another hotel in the same chain (Treebo), but when I got there they said I could not stay there because I did not have a reservation. Thus the three hours on the phone with Expedia, who told me they could not book that hotel, even though the other hotel sent me there, because it showed not available on their website. Plus, I would have to wait for them to get authorization for me to cancel my original reservation without a penalty at the first hotel (the one that told me I could not stay there) and this would take up to 72 hours. Eventually I ended up staying 4 nights in a not very nice hotel by Treebo that I had not booked and that I knew nothing about because I could not cancel my reservation at the first Treebo even though they are the ones that told me I can not stay there. I could have reserved a much nicer hotel room for only a little more than this one. India seems to be a real mess. I have never encountered such disorganization. I can not get a train ticket because I need an Indian phone number to verify the IRCTC account. I can't get a SIM because online form only accepts 6 digit zip codes and US only has 5 digits.
