Moeraki is a te reo Maori word which translates to sleepy sky or a place to rest by day. It is commonly known as the name of a small fishing village on the east coast of the South Island that is famous for the large spherical boulders on a nearby beach. Moeraki is also the name of a ship, in service from 1902 to 1933. The SS Moeraki brought the family's first ancestor to migrate to New Zealand in 1906. We sincerely believe that Moeraki is a wonderful place for you to stay, watch the sea and sky, and rest any time of day.
