Scenic Setting Just 8 Minutes From Athens

Pleasant Hill Retreat is a clean, comfortable, scenic two bedroom apartment/getaway; 1.5 baths, sleeps four adults and two youth very well. Children are welcome and with pet approval, a $35 per-pet fee per-night is charged. Please note that for guests beyond two there is an additional fee which VRBO may not display unless you click "View Details" below the rate total.

Just minutes to O.U., shopping and dining. A spacious living room overlooks a private lake as do two bedrooms and decks. There is a fully equipped eat-in kitchen w/coffee and the apartment wonderfully accommodates travelers, explorers and small families. While the laundry room is available to guests, it is also accessible to the owners with a lockable door ensuring privacy.

This place is a great hub for activities related to Ohio University, the micro breweries and restaurants of Athens, hiking trails, Strouds Run State Park, lakes, boat rentals, picnic areas, and the O.U. golf course. A 50 minute drive will take you into the heart of the Hocking Hills. Although the lake view is only a borrowed one, it does offer an amazing vista and wildlife abounds.

Terrific OU Vacation spot
This is our third time staying here. It's a fantastic spot, close enough to OU, wineries, hiking and shopping. A lovely well appointed place that has fantastic views. Highly recommend!

Athens at its Best
This is our second stay here if that tells you anything. We enjoy this location and will be back again. If you want a quiet relaxing location close to Athens this is the best place. The Love's are awesome hosts.

Retreat near the university
This was a wonderful home away from home in a beautiful natural setting that offered the feel of a retreat while being just a short ten minute drive too the center of the OU campus. Attentive and responsive hosts who also respect privacy, superb laundry facilities, wonderful view. Recommend without reservation!

Peaceful Haven
The apartment/cabin has the most peaceful surroundings and is just minutes away from Ohio University. The owners thought of just about anything you could need during your stay and it was very clean. You can't beat the view.

This place is Awesome! What a nice little get away. The place is clean, modern, and the hosts are very accommodating. It's tucked away in the woods with great views from inside and on the 2 decks. Great place to stay if your visiting Athens or even if you don't mind a 45 minute drive to Hocking Hills. I highly recommend staying here!

I had a short but wonderful stay at this apartment. It was extremely clean and welcoming and I felt comfortable staying there. As others have said, they thought of everything I could have needed. I was staying there from out of state to move my daughter into Ohio University and it was very convenient to the school. I would definitely enjoy staying here again.

Peaceful nature Retreat
This is the quietest and most peaceful home we've ever visited. The property is in the country, away from noise and distractions, but a short drive to restaurants and stores. The beds were so comfortable that we slept wonderfully. The surrounding area is farmland with cornfields and a winery. The view of the pond and forest made our stay very relaxing, and enjoyable. Would definitely stay here again.

Great stay in Athens. The property far exceeded our expectations. Very accommodating to our dog, as well. Kitchen was well stocked. Bedrooms were comfortable. Nice touches all around. And the view! We loved sitting by the big picture windows in the morning.

Quiet and peaceful location with lovely views. Short drive from OU campus. Well laid out space with nice extra touches... samples of locally made soaps, book with notes about the house and the area, waters stocked in the fridge. Would definitely return!

This apartment was perfect for our stay in town for OU orientation. It is spotless and filled with thoughtful snacks and coffee/water. Gorgeous view and very peaceful. Communication with Matt was easy and we would love to come back!

The property has very scenic setting and is very well maintained and thoughtfully set-up. I loved all the small details that Matt and Carrie have taken care of, right from energy bars to the extra propane cylinder for the grill.

Weekend visit
We spent the weekend visiting our daughter who is a student at OU. The apartment was very comfortable, very clean and we were Impressed with all of the little extra touches. We have a relaxing visit, enjoying the view and cooking dinner together as a family. She was even able to do her laundry! Our dogs loved exploring the property. We will stay here again when visiting OU!

Relaxing place to land in Athens
Lovely property and the hosts have thought of everything you might need and then some. The view and grounds are so pretty! We stayed with our two golden retrievers and the hosts even put out dog towels and couch covers for us. If you're traveling with dogs, I'd suggest potty breaks at the top of the property, which is a moderate walk up the steep gravel driveway. If you aren't limber or have older pets, this might be difficult.

Th property is nice. The apartment is very cozy and clean. The property is pretty. We have zero complaints about the comfort of the property. What isn't clear in the listing is that what you are renting is an apartment in the lower level of the pictured house which is also the owner's home. So while the house is comfortable, it isnt private. Had this been clear, we probably wouldn't have chosen to stay there with three rambunctious children. While the owner never complained, we were never the less constantly on guard to make sure the kids didn't make too much noise. The owners were pleasant to deal with and even cut us a break on the extra fees for having the kids. This would probably be a good place for a few adults that just need a clean place that is close to Athens.

Ideal Getaway
My wife's birthday is July 4 (yes, she's a firecracker) and I wanted to schedule a weekend getaway for the two of us. We have never been to southeastern Ohio and the thought of spending time in Hocking Hills and the area around Athens was appealing. This condo fitted our needs and expectations perfectly! It is an absolutely gorgeous setting, nestled in the woods, with wildlife (deer etc) easily visible from the huge picture window. The unit is beautifully appointed and very well equipped. We ate breakfast and lunches in, and went out for dinner the first two nights, and then I made a special birthday dinner at the condo for July 4th. The property is pet-friendly, so we brought our little dog with us and she loved the surroundings as well! In summary, the unit is beautiful, the setting is beautiful and convenient, and the hosts were most accommodating! We would highly recommend this rental for anyone looking for a wonderful getaway experience!

Not Private but Nice
I wish I had noticed that this was NOT a private space since it was not clear in the description. We arrived with our dog and 2 young boys that I didn't want to constantly tell to be quiet during our stay. The location is also quite far from hocking hills attractions...that was clear in the description but not as apparent until we experienced it. If you're OK with the above 2 cons for us, then the space was truly lovely, quiet, super clean, and the amenities were the best we've ever experienced from the bathroom toiletries, kitchen coffee and snacks. Even though it wasn't private we did have the privacy needed since the hosts were mostly gone. If you need to be close to OU, this truly was 7 mins away. We were hoping to be able to go for hikes from the house but that wasn't as feasible since the back yard was mostly on a cliff and the front was close to a sidewalk free road. Things I wish I knew.

What an absolute gem!
This place was a real treasure. The apartment is in the bottom story of the home with floor to ceiling windows, showcasing the beautiful creek. We bumped into Carrie & Matt as we were arriving and they were generous to rattle off a few great hiking and food recommendations - we loved these! The hosts have done everything to make their cabin cozy and welcoming. Small flashlights on the nightstands, available toiletries, firm/quality mattresses, plenty of kitchenware - we loved all the small touches. We spent hours outside on the porch reading and talking and enjoying the view. Thanks for a great weekend!
