Anglet extends over a plain, between the sea and the mouth of the Adour. Going north, you can say that this is where the rocky and steep sites typical of the Basque Coast end, to make way for the more undulating and sandy landscape that characterizes the Landes.
A wooded area hides the large beaches and the famous cave of the 'Chambre d'Amour' whose name comes from a legend, repeatedly touched up, who would like two young lovers, whose families opposed the union, escaped and took refuge in this cave beat by the waves. It was invaded at the rising tide and the two imprudent perished drowned there, united forever in death.
The importance of Anglet is due to its location. It links two cities: Biarritz, a tourist center, and Bayonne, an industrial zone par excellence. This factor has conditioned its development. The fact that it is on the RN 10 has attracted commercial establishments (supermarkets, shopping malls, etc.). Note also the airport whose traffic intensity is far from negligible.
Anglet has good hotel capacity; campsites and youth hostels. One of its churches, dedicated to Saint-Léon, was built in 1583, renovated and modified in the 17th century; as for the town hall, it is a building dating from 1938, in neo-Spanish style, designed by the architect Marcel, the same who, in 1930, made the interior arrangements of the castle of Brindos.
We cannot speak of Anglet without mentioning Chiberta, a magnificent forest in the heart of the city but also a residential area located by the lake which bears its name. Not far from there is a zoological garden, with a large collection of birds and a maritime pine wood.
