"The LBV hotel is an absolutely beautiful property. However, it is a VERY steep climb up to it from Pinhao. Unless you have a car (which is challenging to drive in this area) or want to pay for a taxi to get to a restaurant it is not convenient. I averaged 10 miles a day travelling in Europe and this ..."

We took the train from Porto to Pinhao so did not have the benefit of a car. Lots of walking up very steep hills in Pinhao, but loved the challenge. The boat tours up the Douro are not to be missed, and we visited two wineries in 2 days.
