"We checked out after one sleepless night. Our room was so loud inside it felt like we were in a nightclub, but worse, because it was a mixture of 3-4 nearby clubs and bars music. The hostel itself hadn’t even started any live music yet when we arrived. I don’t know how the Hostel can actually charge money for this room, let alone nearly 100 dollars. "We always write what we did like and what we didn't like so much. Onto the not so much to get to the awesome! The only thing we can think of is we didn't feel as secure as we could have with the room. The windows can't be left open (screens) if you want your items as protected as possible that makes it stuffy and warmer in the room when you are gone. "Balsa Surf Camp is like staying with family! It has a wonderful atmosphere, and the location is nice and quiet within a very easy walk to town. For a surfing adventure, everything is at your fingertips and the team are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I thoroughly enjoyed the daily yoga, thank you to the wonderful instructor Darcy Lynch. I will visit Montanita again, and I wouldn't think of staying anywhere other than Balsa. "

"There was no hot water, no real curtains in the room. Being a girl alone this was scary at night. my friend actually broke her foot trying to walk down the steep hill. I am happy to provide proof. "This was a trip to Puerto Cayo. Puerto Cayo is a very very very sleepy little village west of Jipijapa. You have to want to go there. There has to be a reason. Otherwise, most people head to Frailes or up to Manta. If you want quiet and no people -- not cars in the streets or motorcycles making noise, then Puerto Cayo is for you. "Owners were very friendly and helpful. This is a family friendly hostal with no partying, drinking, loud music. Made it easy to sleep. Rooms are basic, no AC, no hot water but private bathroom in our room. Bedroom could use fresh coat of paint but everything was clean. For the price it was a great value. Without a car it is likely further from the beach than easily accessible. We had our own car so it was a short drive. We would definitely recommend this hostal."
