"The Savus Boutique Hotel was perfect. The service and attentiveness by Lucia, Alexandria, and Gianni’s? Were great. Perfect size, big enough to be a full business- small enough for personal attention. English is spoken by staff. Breakfast on the large patio is perfect for several guests at a time, and the food was a great combo of cold and hot dishes plus prepared eggs! Location is right at the line between old town and the newer section. We will stay there again if our travels take us to Crete."

Staff are lovely - although there is a risk of wine recommendations becoming a sales pitch. There are lots more hotel-organised trips available than before. This can provide comfort and confidence to new visitors but you can save money if you choose to arrange them yourself. Pool area is beautifully kept and clean. "We rented a car to travel in Rethymno and we were looking for something in the centre of the town, with car parking area and breakfast. We arrived very late at night and we were very welcomed at the reception of Fortezza Hotel and our room with the view of the hotel swimming pool and the garden was wonderful. Breakfast was great and all the staff so helpful and very nice. Next time we will definitely stay longer there."
