When we were in the room it was freezing, it was -2 in the room, we tried the heating but it didn’t work. Asked reception to move us but they said they didn’t have any other rooms made up. Stokes cafe and a great tapas restaurant are just across the courtyard and there’s a large pay and display car park behind the hotel if you drive. "Such a great little gem. Staff were very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. Loved the décor, it was wonderful, felt very comfortable and relaxed after the family funeral we had attended. Evening spent in the bar, Nigel (owner) was the perfect host and made sure we had everything we needed. Breakfast, wow what a great verity on offer. Scrambled eggs were done beautifully. "A fantastic hotel, in an area of national historical importance. The service from everyone there is fantastic. It's a beautiful hotel where you can take a walk. You may think some areas need further maintenence but the cost maintaining Victorian Gothic style building is frankly very difficult and should get Government grants. It really is an incredible place absolutely steeped in legend and history. "
