"This is a good motel and we would stay there again if passing through Timaru. The name harbour view is a bit misleading as the hotel doesn't have a harbour view, at least not from the ground floor rooms! However it is only a short walk from Caroline Bay. The centre of Timaru is a little further to walk and it's uphill if that is an issue for you. However there is plenty of parking in town. "We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment style room with full kitchen, dining area and bath on the third floor. We were welcomed and had a nice chat while checking in. Room was clean and comfortable and appreciated the full kitchen for in room dining. While the hotel is located on a busy street we did not notice any major noise to speak of. While not in the downtown business district the hotel is super convenient to walk through the park to Marine Parade for possible blue penguin sitings."

"Very friendly check-in. The lady at reception was very nice and helpful with our questions being our first visit to Timaru. Walked to the lighthouse then to the penguins. Returned late at night and had an awesome sleep in a very comfortable warm bed. The room is not fancy but perfect for the price and you just need somewhere to sleep. "

"Very old decor. Old sheets. Hotel smelled of cooking oil. I bit more attention to cleaning would have been good, e.g. the exeplair duct in the bathroom was thick with grime. For this level of room I would have expected to pay $60 - $85, not $105."
