"Our experience in Shetland was greatly enhanced by our hotel stay. The staff were very helpful. Particularly Scott and Curtis at breakfast. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Esha Ness as the storm approaches We had hoped to paddle this coast during our week in September, but winds were high all week. In this evening view the cliffs are already being battered by swell from a storm which would not arrive for another thirty hours. Waves which are "only" a couple of metres in this view were forecast to rise to four and a half metres the next day. Understandably, we paddled in more sheltered locations. In the right conditions, sea kayakers can get in amongst the cliffs and stacks, where there are several subterranean passages. Even with swell (but without the strong winds) we could contemplate making the passage between Moo stack (upper left) and the main cliffs, and perhaps visiting Muckle Ossa, the small island top left. It will all be there for next time ...
