Murals telling stories of the region: Cooch Behar, now a district in Bengal was once a powerful Hindu kingdom.
In 1765, it was ruled by King Dhairjendra Narayan.

Towards middle of the 18th century, the Bhutanese made several incursions into Cooch Behar and in 1769 at Chekakhata, the commander in chief of Bhutan, Mr Penshu Toma captured Dhairjendra Narayanan at an annual banquet.

Dhairjendra Narayan was first confined at the Buxa fort and later sent to Punaka, the then capital of Bhutan.

Later, Captain Jones of the British East India Company along with the local forces expelled the Bhutanese out of Cooch Behar and eventually annexed it with Bengal.

Dhairjendra Narayan was released and people of his kingdom greeted their king with a sumptuous meal in this village, hence the name Rajabhatkhawa ( king's meal )
