Learn more about Anif

Get away to secluded Anif! Enjoy the mountains, coffee, and culture.

Anif Castle, located at the southern city limits of Salzburg, Austria, looks the quintessential romantic fairy tale. The castle gained notoriety in films like The Sound of Music, The Great Race, The Odessa Files and The Slipper and the Rose.

Erected in the early 16th century, the castle was rebuilt by Prince-Archbishop Johann Ernst von Thun about 1693 and served as the summer residence of the Bishops of Chiemsee. Redesigned in the mid-19th century in the current neo-Gothic style, Anif Castle was the refuge of the deposed king Ludwig III of Bavaria during the German revolution of 1918-19.

Today the castle is privately owned by the family von Moy.
